This video is a montage of two of my Science days - Living World 1 and 2. Twelve Home school students spent two days doing lots of hands on Science activities. We studied classification, characteristics of living things, 5 kingdom classification, dissections and microscope work. The students enjoyed doing Science together and had fun making new friends.

So I had this idea to use the conductivity of vegemite to make eating vegemite toast an electrifying experience! I intended it for an April Fools Day prank, but it turned out to be a bit of a fail from that perspective. I buried a 20volt battery with wiring in the toast so that when your lips and tongue made contact with the vegemite strips, current would flow, giving the eater a bit of a zing! Although the prank failed, I was surprised at the pleasant sensation of eating an electrified vegemite toast!

It's easy to implode a can! Add some water, heat it up so that the water boils and the steam drives out the air. Quickly put a lid on it, cool it down and let air pressure do the rest!

Learn how to make an electromagnetic force swing using lego and insulated copper wire.
In this Real Lego, Real Science, Real Good – Make Science Fun episode – Jacob and Sam make a swing in the park which utilises the motor effect.
The motor effect is when a current carrying conductor in a magnetic field experiences a force.
Jacob uses the right hand rule to explain the relationship between the direction of the current, the direction of the magnetic field and the direction of the force.

Jacob took his Year 7 Science class to Taronga Zoo Sydney.
Normally a highlight of the day is the birdshow.
Unfortunately it was cancelled due to the heat and wind.
So Jacob decided to do his own bird show.
I hope you enjoy!

A bottle has some concentrated Hydrogen Peroxide in it. Hanging from a thread inside the bottle is a paper tissue bag filled with Manganese Dioxide. When the stopper is removed, the Manganese Dioxide bag falls into the bottle, catalysing the Hydrogen Peroxide into water (steam) and oxygen gas.

I created a foot operated hand sanitiser dispenser from bits and bobs I found around his house.
To protect my family I used the window wiper mechanism and battery from a car, a wheel from an office chair, bits of wood, a pipe and a kitchen stool to build my machine.
I also made my own alcoholic hand sanitiser from aloe vera plant and methylated spirits which he puts into a plastic sauce bottle, which then fits in the dispenser.

On the 9th April 2016, Jacob Strickling appeared on the Weekend Today Show Channel Nine.
He had a five minute slot to do three Science demonstrations for the hosts, Peter Stefanovic and Amelia Adams.
Demo 1: Blew out candles using smoke vortex rings blown out of a garbage can.
Demo 2: Flour flame. Blow plain cooking flour out of a funnel into a flame. The particles have such a large surface area, they readily combust making a huge ball of flame.
Demo 3: Igniting gas bubbles in the hands. First hands are wet with water, then gas bubbles are scooped up and ignited. The water protects the skin, and only the gas bubbles burn.
It was awesome fun! To watch the episode as it aired on Channel Nine click the link below:
