Body Cams Las Vegas Officers Involved Fatal Shooting With Thief Suspect on 8-1-17
#officerinvolvedshooting #policebodycam Las Vegas, Nevada--- Authorities released revealing body cam video and the cause of death Friday for an armed suspect in an officer-involved shooting on Tuesday near the Las Vegas strip. The shootout and subsequent stand-off situation, left two Metro Police officers shot and one injured.
The Clark County Coroner's office said 25-year-old Miguel Salas died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Salas was the suspect named in the officer-involved shooting incident that happened Tuesday evening.
In the body cam video of the shooting, police asked Salas to step out of the truck and he refused.
"Step out of the car," an officer is heard saying.
"Why do you need me to step out of my car?" Salas said. "I'm not doing nothing!"
"Yes, you are. You're not listening to our command. Do you want to get tased?" the officer said.
In the video, an officer holds Salas' left wrist as he argued with the police. In a split second, Salas grabs a gun and starts firing at police. Officers run for cover and fire back at Salas.
"Shots fired! I've been hit! Shots fired, I've been hit!" Metro Police Officer Richard Nelson is heard yelling.
Police said units originally responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle, that was connected to a report of a stolen cell phone, parked in front of a business in the 4100 block of West Tompkins Avenue at 4:15 p.m.
According to Metro Police Sgt. Jeff Clark, as officers approached the vehicle, the suspect opened fire and struck two officers from inside the vehicle.
Officer Richard Nelson, 33, was wearing a bullet proof vest when he was hit in the lower left chest area and subsequently transported to University Medical Center. Nelson has four children and his parents and fiance were at the hospital while he was treated.
Sgt. Clark updated the situation and reported Officer Nelson "was okay" after the incident.
The other officer, who has not been identified, was also hit, but his uniform belt kept him from suffering any wounds, police said.
"It doesn't matter what area this happens in, everybody comes together and supports each other (in times like these)," Sheriff Joe Lombardo said.
Officer Nelson has been employed with the department since April 2009. He has been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a review of this incident.
Metro Assistant Sheriff Tom Roberts briefed the media Friday afternoon, said he spoke to both officers involved in the shooting and both are "doing well."
A bystander also recorded the incident.

The Chicago Police Department was notified of shots fired near the 3600 Block of West Douglas Boulevard. Once in the area responding officers were given a description of the suspected individual later identified as 45-year-old Bruce Lua by a local resident. After locating the individual, officers verbally engaged but were ignored as the suspect continued down an alley in the direction of other responding officers. In Tucson, Arizona, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department has made public a series of materials, including a 911 call, bodycam footage, and images, shedding light on the events of December 21, 2023. On that night, deputies from the department responded to a residence near Shannon and Overton roads in Casas Adobes following a 911 call reporting a domestic dispute over the custody of a child.
The caller, later identified as the child's grandfather, expressed concern over an individual, Jordyn Guadalupe Sanchez, attempting to take the child without proper custody documentation. Upon arrival, deputies encountered Sanchez, aged 29, who lacked court-ordered custody of the child and refused to separate from them, intending to leave with the child against the family's wishes.
As deputies attempted to apprehend Sanchez, a struggle ensued, leading to a physical altercation captured on video. The sequence escalated with the sound of gunfire, though it remains undisclosed who initiated the shooting. Subsequently, an exchange of gunfire between officers and Sanchez occurred, with over a dozen shots heard in the footage. The confrontation resulted in injuries to both deputies and Sanchez.
The distressing scene prompted the deputies to call for urgent assistance via radio, with one deputy declaring, "I've been shot!" Sanchez managed to flee the scene initially but was later apprehended nearby. All parties involved, including the deputies Jaylon McEuen and Leonardo Wells, and Sanchez, were transported to Banner University Medical Center with severe injuries.
Following treatment, Sanchez was placed under arrest and faces multiple felony charges, including attempted murder, felony endangerment, and custodial interference. Both deputies have since been discharged from the hospital and are recuperating at home with their families. Wells, it was clarified, was the deputy who discharged his firearm during the encounter, as confirmed by Pima County officials.

2 men tried to outgun the owner of a gun store in Mableton, but it did not work out as planned.
It happened on Monday morning December 26th 2016 at the Dixie Gun and Pawn on Veterans Memorial Highway in Cobb County.
The store owner Jimmy Groover said that “two men wearing masks came in with guns drawn, demanding that he get on the floor, while shouting they were going to Shoot him.” But Groover was wearing a handgun on his hip “Police said (Groover) pulled out his gun and fired, hitting one of the gunmen.”
The suspects opened fire as well, later police arrived to find shattered glass and one of the two suspects lying on the floor. The second suspect fled the scene and escaped in a silver Dodge Charger
Police said a series of bullets were fired in both directions.
One of the store's front windows was shattered from a gunshot.
Groover said his store has been robbed numerous times during the 30 years that his family has owned it, but this was the first time that people allegedly tried to rob it during business hours.
Update: The suspect who was shot, 30-year-old Donovan Chopin, died at the scene, police said. The investigation into attempted robbery is ongoing and the second suspect has not been caught, Cobb County police Officer Alicia Chilton said.
Groover doesn’t face any charges, Chilton said.
In the 30 years that Groover, 64, has owned a gun store, this was the first time he’s been present when someone tried to rob him. But there have been 18 burglaries at his store and about a dozen attempted burglaries over those three decades,
Since news of the shooting, Groover said he’s received calls from around the country.
“They’ve just called to give me support because they know it’s not an easy thing to do,” he said. “People are tired of being victimized, and they’re glad to see a good guy win.”

, Westerville Police notified Columbus Police that WPD had “one of your wanted subjects at St. Ann’s hospital.” The operator identified the subject as Miles M.Jackson, date of birth 12/5/93. She informed Columbus Police that Jackson was found sleeping on a bench outside of a bank, and was taken to the hospital after a suspected relapse related to a drug overdose. She informed Columbus Police that Jackson has an open domestic violence warrant out of case #21 CRB 2113, with additional warrants for assault, falsification, resisting arrest, drug possession, and weapons under disability
(Note: weapons under disability is a criminal charge meaning a person possessed a firearm when they had been legally prohibited from doing so by a court of law. In Jackson’s case, this was based on a prior felony conviction.)

PASCO, WA --- The Pasco Police Department has released Body camera, dashcam, picture and information related to an officer-involved shooting (OIS) on March 13, 2022, in the area of 6th Ave and W Lewis St.
The incident began at 11:40 a.m. when a 911 caller reported two males fighting in the street.
Pasco officers arrived on the scene and found a male lying on the ground with apparent stab wounds. An officer rendered medical aid to the injured male. This male died of his injuries at the scene.
Officer Jones and Officer McClintock contacted the male who was armed with the knife. The male later identified as Gabriel Artz, 30 years old charged at the officers. Officers shot at the Artz, striking him with gunfire, stopping his aggression. Officers immediately rendered medical aid. Artz who was shot was transported to a regional hospital by ambulance, where he later died of his injuries.
Artz had a lengthy, and violent, criminal past. The 30-year-old had been convicted of six felonies dating back to 2006. Artz was most recently convicted of 2nd Degree Felony Assault in 2018.
Artz's other convictions included Assault, Illegal Firearm Possession, Malicious Mischief and Burglary.

The Anaheim Police Department released body camera, 911 call and details of a fatal officer involved shooting occurred on December 12, 2019 at an apartment complex near East Street and Lincoln Avenue.
The suspect has been identified as Taveonte Art Emmanuel, a 34 year old resident of Anaheim.
“At about 2220 hours the first call was received to Anaheim Police Department dispatch from a resident stating a male black adult, wearing a grey beanie and black pants was at their door screaming for the reporting party to open the door. Earlier report from the police said there was no mention of the subject being armed.
“Two APD patrol officers self-dispatched to the call at about 2230 hours and arrived on scene about 5 minutes later.
“Upon arrival they contacted the reporting party who identified Mr. Emmanuel as the subject in question and they told officers their call was related to a possible domestic violence incident involving Mr. Emmanuel.
“Officers attempted to contact Mr. Emmanuel but he was uncooperative with their efforts. Officers requested a supervisor to the scene and a field sergeant arrived at about 2250 hours.
“It was during that time officers again established contact with with Mr. Emmanuel and at about 2256 hours officers radio’d dispatch that there had been an officer involved shooting. The shooting occurred in the underground parking garage of the location. Officers on scene and subsequent responding officers provided medical aid until Mr. Emmanuel was transported to UCI Medical Center by Anaheim Fire and Rescue personnel where he ultimately died of his injuries.
“No Officers were injured during the incident and there was obviously at least one APD Officer who fired their weapon. Determining the number of officers who fired and the numbers of rounds fired will be handled by Orange County District Attorney’s Office as well as confirmation of any other items of evidence or statements that may have been obtained by them during their investigation…

Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department's (LAPD) Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved-Shooting (OIS) that occurred Monday evening, in Southwest Division.
On June 1, 2020, around 9:24 p.m., two male suspects (who were later identified as 20-year-old Daizon Blue and 18-year-old Mosiq Jones) along with a third individual named Damion Henninger, were at a gas station located at the 2200 block of South Vermont Avenue. The males were standing next to a silver Hyundai that was parked at a gas pump.
During that time, Southwest Division plain clothes Narcotics Enforcement Detail (NED) officers were in the area driving an unmarked sedan conducting crime suppression due to recent protests and looting. As the officers drove through the gas station lot, they observed one of the suspects point a firearm at their vehicle. The officers drove out of the gas station and immediately broadcasted a request for back-up. Moments later, additional Southwest NED officers, who were driving an unmarked van, drove into the gas station lot and were immediately fired upon by Jones and Blue. Both suspects fired multiple rounds, striking the officers van as it came to a stop, at which time an Officer-Involved-Shooting occurred. Jones and Blue then dropped their weapons, surrendered, and were taken into custody.
Neither Jones nor Blue were struck by gunfire. Henninger was struck by gunfire and was also taken into custody. The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported Henninger to a local hospital, where he was treated for his injuries that were determined not to be life-threatening. Henninger was not arrested and was released. Jones and Blue were subsequently arrested and booked for attempt murder.
One NED officer sustained a minor graze wound during the incident. He was treated at a local hospital and later released.
Two loaded handguns were located at scene and recovered as evidence.
LAPD's specialized Force Investigation Division (FID) responded to the scene and began interviewing witnesses and collecting forensic evidence. A representative from the Office of the Inspector General responded and monitored the scene investigation.
The complete investigation will be reviewed by the Chief of Police and the Board of Police Commissioners and the Office of the Inspector General to determine the thoroughness and accuracy of the investigation and whether the use of deadly force complied with LAPD's policies and procedures. GREENVILLE COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA. —
The Greenville County Sheriff's Office released the body camera video, 911 call, pictures and details of a deputy shooting involving that occurred on March 06.2021 at around 2 a.m. on Toscano Court at the Pelham Village Apartments.
The Greenville County sheriff's office said deputies were called to the apartment building to investigate noises on the roof. When the responding deputy arrived, that deputy encountered a man with a gun on the roof of the building.
The deputy provided verbal commands when the suspect pulled a gun out on him. The suspect then points his weapon at the deputy.

The deputy involved has been cleared in an internal investigation Greenville County Sheriff Hobart Lewis said.
Officials with the State Law Enforcement Division said the case remains under investigation.

The San Leandro Police Department released body camera (3) of an officer involved shooting that occurred on October 24, 2020, about 9:15PM, San Leandro Police Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a Silver Sedan for traffic violations in the area of 148th Avenue and Wake Avenue. The sedan failed to stop, and a pursuit ensued.
The pursuit continued for several blocks and ended when the Sedan stopped near the intersection of 137th Avenue and School Street. The driver of the sedan immediately ran away on foot and fled into backyard of a residence in the 1700 block of 137th Avenue.
A firearm was discovered during the search of the sedan. Additional San Leandro Police Officers responded to area and, after an exhaustive search, the driver of the sedan was not located. Subsequently, the search for the driver was cancelled.
Acting on the belief that the driver of sedan was still hiding somewhere in the 1700 block of 137th Avenue, two uniformed police officers got an undercover police vehicle and began driving through the neighborhood in an effort to locate the driver.
About 11:55PM, the officers were parked on 137th Avenue just east of Bancroft Avenue when unbeknownst to them an unrelated silver vehicle pulled up behind them and suddenly stopped. As the officers began to exit the undercover vehicle to contact the driver of this uninvolved vehicle, the driver, later identified as John Berry 43, years old, who was still seated in the driver’s seat raised a firearm above the dashboard and in the direction of the officers.
Both officers immediately saw the driver raise the firearm in their direction and used their service weapons striking Berry man multiple times in his upper torso. Officers provided first aid to Berry until the arrival of paramedics. He was later transported to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition.
As with all officer involved shootings, the department will be conducting a complete multi-level review. The officers involved were placed on administrative leave which is standard protocol in any officer involved shooting.
No officers sustained any injuries and a semi-automatic firearm was recovered at the scene.
The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office will also conduct an independent investigation of the incident, as they do with all officer involved shootings that result in injury or death.
It remains important to note that we are in the early stages of this investigation and more information will bring additional clarity to what happened.
