The Battle of Champions Hill started on May the 16th 1863. Two days prior, the Union had fought and occupied the Mississippi capital of Jackson while Confederate forces in the area regrouped under their new commander, Joseph E Johnston. Johnston ordered Lt. Gen. John C. Pemberton and his 23,000 men to attack the Union at the outskirts of Jackson before they had a chance to reinforce the position. Pemberton and his generals felt this plan to be un-wise, and elected to skirt around Jackson and block the supply route for the Union as well as intercept the supply trains im-bound, positioning themselves between Raymond and Jackson. A message came, repeating the previous order and the army was forced to counter-march.
When the two forces did engage, Pemberton's army had formed into a three-mile long defensive line that ran southwest to northeast along a crest of a ridge overlooking Jackson Creek, a position that commanded the heights around the area. However, he was unaware that one of the three Union columns was moving along the Jackson Road against his unprotected left flank, one of two escapes routes that he had planned on using. When word reached him of union men on the road, he shifted additional forces over with the objective of holding that road open.

The US invasion of Korea was one of the first actions taken by the state in the Asiatic theater of the world. This action changed the course of Korean politics and international standing to a heavy degree, and came after a string of western intervention in the state.

The breaking of Japanese isolation is widely known to some degree. Japan went from a very isolationist society, to one that managed to fight against Western Powers in little less then a century. However, Japan wasn't the only nation at the time that had its isolation broken. A neighbor to it's east, bore the brunt of multiple invasions, in an attempt to break it's isolation. In this episode, we will be talking about the American expedition to Korea.
The incident that is sometimes cited as causing this expedition, was the General Sherman incident in 1866, where the US ship General Sherman, was attacked by Korean forces as they tried to land and make a trade agreement. However, the forces in the region were to support an American diplomatic mission sent to establish trade and political relations with the peninsular nation, and to establish a treaty assuring aid for shipwrecked sailors if such a thing were to occur. The Americans informed the Koreans, that they intended to explore the area and meant no harm. Korean policy though, was that no foreign ship was to go up the Han river, which lead directly to the capital. As the American ships started to sail up the river, two forts opened fire on them.
Rear Admiral Rodgers demanded an apology from the Joseon government and set a time limit of 10 days to receive it, however, no apology came. So Rodgers carried out his threat. This led to the Battle of Ganghwa on the Tenth of June 1871. The attack began, when the American squadron arrived off Point Du Conde and began bombarding the fort. A shore party was landed which immediately launched an attack on Fort itself without meeting heavy resistance. The next day saw the Americans capture another fort, again to minimal resistance. On the 12th, was when the main battle commenced. Around 300 Koreans, armed with matchlock rifles, swords, and clubs held Fort McKee which was the heart of Korean defensive network. The Americans under Lieutenant Hugh McKee gradually climbed over the fort walls, engaging in hand-to

Fighting began in earnest on the morning of September 19. Bragg's men strongly assaulted but could not break the Union line. The next day, Bragg resumed his assault. In late morning, Rosecrans was misinformed that he had a gap in his line. In moving units to shore up the supposed gap, Rosecrans accidentally created an actual gap, directly in the path of an eight-brigade assault on a narrow front by Confederate Lt. Gen. James Longstreet. Longstreet's attack drove one-third of the Union army, including Rosecrans himself, from the field. Union units spontaneously rallied to create a defensive line on Horseshoe Ridge, forming a new right wing for the line of Maj. Gen. George H. Thomas, who assumed overall command of remaining forces. Although the Confederates launched costly and determined assaults, Thomas and his men held until twilight. Union forces then retired to Chattanooga while the Confederates occupied the surrounding heights, besieging the city.
On September 21, Rosecrans's army withdrew to the city of Chattanooga and took advantage of previous Confederate works to erect strong defensive positions. However, the supply lines into Chattanooga were at risk and the Confederates soon occupied the surrounding heights and laid siege upon the Union forces. Unable to break the siege, Rosecrans was relieved of his command of t

The 1941 Eduador-Peruvian war (Otherwise known as the War of 41), was one of the many conflicts between the two nations since their independence, but played a major part in both nations histories. Today, we will be telling the story of this largely forgotten conflict, and the history behind it.

On July 18, Tyler advanced to Centreville and found that Centreville was unoccupied by Confederate troops. He then marched southeast to Mitchell's Ford and Blackburn's Ford, arriving at the latter about 11 a.m. Looking south across the stream, Tyler believed that the road to Manassas Junction was clear, but he failed to see the Confederate brigade of Brig. Gen. James Longstreet concealed in the woods behind the ford. He ordered two howitzers under Capt. Romeyn B. Ayres to bombard the Confederates he could see, guns of the Alexandria Artillery and the Washington Artillery, but the fire had no visible effect. He ordered Col. Israel B. Richardson and part of his brigade forward.
Richardson's advance met initial resistance from the 1st, 11th, and 17th Virginia Infantry regiments of Longstreet's brigade. Tyler ordered Ayres to move his guns closer to the action, accompanied by cavalry, and he sent the rest of Richardson's brigade toward the ford. Richardson's assault fell apart as the 12th New York Infantry began to retreat under heavy fire, causing a wave of panic to spread through the Union line.
Col. Jubal A. Early arrived with his Confederate brigade after marching 2 miles north from Beauregard's headquarters at Wilmer McLean's house. The availability of this additional firepower completed the Confederate victory, and a reinforced Washington Artillery kept the Union troops under fire as they retreated. Colonel Patrick T. Moore of the 1st Virginia Infantry, later a Confederate brigadier general, received a severe head wound in the skirmish and was incapacitated for further field service. kidtrjkpdtkptgftgf9349054890

Hello everyone.
This is a short little series that I created just to have something coming out. I'm currently in the process of working on a larger project.
Information of Afghanistan during this period in time isn't that forthcoming. That's the usual with these nations I found out. Not surprising but with my lack of time this is what I was able to figure out.
With the advent of Operation Barbarossa in June 1941, Afghanistan found itself rocked by a more serious international shockwave. The Soviet Union the great opponent of the British Empire in central Asia and ally of Afghanistan's German friends suddenly became an enemy of the Germans and a friend of the British. There was no longer any hope of playing the British against the Soviets. Soon afterward came the joint Anglo-Soviet invasion of Iran, an event which thoroughly alarmed the government, and at which point Afghanistan was surrounded by Allied-controlled territory. It became all too apparent to Kabuls government that it could suffer the same fate as its western neighbor and the government had no choice but to accede to the joint Anglo-Soviet demand in October 1941 for the expulsion of all Germans and Italians. Although due to Afghanistan's officially neutral status small diplomatic staffs were permitted to remain, by the end of the month 206 Axis nationals had departed for neutral Turkey. Some additional Italian and German diplomatic personnel were expelled in September 1943.
Afghanistan retained its neutrality but, surrounded by the possessions and occupied territories of the increasingly powerful Allied states, it became a neutrality which was as much enforced as chosen. Kabul never declared war on Germany and never broke diplomatic relations with Berlin unlike a good many other powers did near the end of the wat. Had the Wehrmacht defeated the Soviet Union, however, and had panzers appeared on its northern border, Afghanistan would not have hes
