C64 Donation Series #4 Power Supply Accessories donations and wrap up
In this video series where we are refurbishing a C64 system for a boy with special circumstances. Thanks for the great retro community donations have come in around the world for this project.
In this episode we are covering a number of donations that recently arrived. First, we have a NuBrick power supply from Kevin Ottum that will safely keep this C64 powered for years to come. Next, we have a WiModem, a pi1541 hat, and two cartridges from CommodoreKazz. Our young C64 will be able to load a BBS program from the pi1541 and surf a Commodore BBS like it was 1985! Then he can relax with a game of Gridrunner or write some program with Simons’ BASIC. A box of NOS 5 ½” floppy disks are also on the way from David Ziegler so our young friend will be able to use his 1541 with real floppies for the authentic 1980s experience.
Thanks to everyone for helping out with this project that is going to a worthy cause. Josh Malone – Hyperkin Trooper joysticks Ronald Postgate - C2N tape deck belts Kevin Ottum – NuBrick power supply CommodoreKazz – WiModem, pi1541 hat, carts David Zieglar – box of NOS floppy disks

In this series we take a look at a C128 and 1571 that are a bit of a puzzle. While it is odd to find a Made in W. Germany C128 in the USA what is stranger still is that it is not a PAL computer. We’ll discover the roots of this odd pair and refurbish them in the process.
In this video we we’ll clean up the keyboard and see if we can’t take care of the jaundiced keys and case. Then we’ll give the 1571 refurb after looking into the odd 120/240V power supply.
We wrap up with a bit of information about why these machines were made from a Commodore insider and provide some clues as to what to look for to see if you have one of these unusual machines.

I headed back to Ohio this fall to Tandy Assembly 2022 to partake in all the Tandy centric fun and frivolity. It was a blast again this year; a lot of great presentations, a peek at folks’ collections, projects, swapping parts, etc. I took a few minutes of video to try to give everyone who could not attend a flavor of the event. Hats off to the show organizers who put a lot of time and effort into pulling it off every year.

In this video series we are refurbishing a C64 system for a boy with special circumstances. Thanks for the great retro community donations have come in around the world for this project.
In this particular video we are doing the ‘glue fix’ to a pair of new Hyperkin Trooper joysticks donated by Josh Malone. Josh drop shipped the sticks to me and suggested doing this fix before the sticks were used. This are great Atari 2600 style sticks which have a small manufacturing problem where the handles can come unscrewed. When they get loose, they can break. We'll do a quick clean on the threads and then seal them with an adhesive chosen for the task.
In the next video we’ll do a refurb on the Commodore C2N datasette.

In this video we set out to refurbish two small cassette decks. It should be a simple matter of replacing the belts and general cleaning on both decks. The Realistic Minisette-9 reveals some hidden damage when it comes time to reassemble it and I don’t help matters by making a few mistakes along the way. The Sharp CE-152 also has a surprise waiting in store. Can we fix them? Join us and find out.

In this video we take a look at some vintage technical manuals I obtained from a professor clearing out his office. Old manuals such as these are such a joy. They are full of great information that in many cases is hard or impossible to find elsewhere. The writing is also typically better than what we get today, more succinct and written by someone who is highly skilled at conveying technical information in written form.

I dug out this pair of Suncom TAC-3 joysticks for the recent C-64 build I did for my nephew. They did not feel like very well make joysticks so I sat them aside. I refurbished one just to see what was inside and My Patreons expressed an interest in a video showing the refurb of the second stick.
We wind up with a pair of nice looking vintage joysticks but how well do they work? Are they a worthy successor to the famous TAC-2 or a stylish let down? Join us and find out.
