20 Months ago Isobel Tamati suffered a severe aneurysm, or bleed in the brain and also a stroke. She was extremely lucky to survive thanks to incredible surgery but was left with hardly any higher function. Unable to speak more than a word or two, no memory, no ability to focus, no controlled over the movement of her body. She was literally a toddler in a womans body. The prognosis at age 75 was devastating and they didn't expect her to make much of a recovery. But we fought hard for her and the major breakthrough in her recovery was hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Here Isobel shares a little of her story.
Isobel is now fully in life again, has ditched the wheelchair and is able to walk and do most things for herself, she can talk, read, write and is her wonderful intelligent self again. Her memory is back and she is loving life. Thanks to full dedication of the family, her determination to continue the fight, hours everyday of training and hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

18 months ago my mum, Isobel suffered a debilitating aneurysm and after weeks in and out of a coma and in a critical state she finally stabiised but she was left with very little higher functioning. The lights were on but no one was home.
She could only utter a few words, had no memory, no ability to focus or concentrate, was unable to follow commands, or to even eat properly and was released from the rehab unit after three months for failing to improve. They told us to put her in resthome and that we would never be able to cope with her at home as she was hospital level care, needing 2 people 24/7 but we never gave up.
We took her home anyway and the battle began.
After 18 months of dedicated work on her recovery and after 140 hyperbaric oxygen treatments she has defied the odds despite being 75 years old. She can now speak normally, read, write, has all her higher functions back, has her long and short term memory back and has worked extremely hard on learning to walk. 6 weeks go she ditched the wheel chair and works for hours a day on different aspects of her recovery.
Here she walks to the top of her steep driveway supported by my brother Dawson. This is what love and dedication and an undying belief that she can do it, has achieved.
She is our walking miracle. Never Give up no matter how bad the odds and no matter how many people tell you will never make it.
