why-switzerland-is-the-most-perfect
Outstanding scenery, incredible railways, a rich history and culture, and the balance of traditional celebrations with modern festivals. Here are 7 reasons why Switzerland may just be, The Perfect Country.
1. Perfect To Visit All-Year-Round.
Generally, the majority of locations are best to visit at specific times of the year:
Beaches in summer, Skiing in winter, tropical countries in the dry season, and tourist hot spots in the off-season.
But Switzerland is different, its climate is everchanging, in one valley it could be raining and in the next, sunny and warm.
Snow-capped mountains in winter, the Alpine bloom in spring, Mediterranean summers, and the beautiful orange and blue contrast in Autumn.
Switzerland is perhaps the only country that is beautiful all year round.
2. Pacifism and Language.
Switzerland is known for staying neutral and avoiding conflict but this isn't just the country's political view, it is also the sentiment of its people.
This is because over two-thirds of swiss people are bilingual and more than a quarter speak three or more languages, and it is scientifically proven that multilingual people, in general, are more tolerant and understanding of others.
3. Inventive.
Thanks to its relatively cheap and high-quality education system and its neutrality during the world wars which attracted some of the most intelligent people of the time, Switzerland is a land of intelligence and invention.
27 noble prize winners in physics, chemistry, and medicine, Einstein developed his E=MC2 formula in Switzerland, they founded the red cross (whose symbol is the swiss flag inverted), they also invented Velcro, aluminium foil, white chocolate, milk chocolate, hazelnut chocolate, muesli, the computer mouse, the LCD projector, the turbocharger, and many others including, of course, the swiss army knife.
4. Diversity and Culture.
Switzerland doesn't just celebrate its own culture, it also celebrates the influence its neighboring countries' cultures have had on it. It has over 600 museums, it maintains its historic railways and funiculars, its medieval architecture, and thermal baths but also hosts the Geneva motor show, the International balloon festival, the Montreux Jazz Festival, and the International street artists festival.
5. Quality of life.
Living in Switzerland is expensive... but not for the Swiss!
The average wage is over $100,000 a year, compared to $60,000 in the US.
and yet University tuition fees are just $1000 a year when in the US, they're around $25,000.
Switzerland has just 6.6% of the population living on the poverty line compared to 11.4% in the US.
According to the Happy Planet Index which is based on life expectancy, well-being, and ecological footprint, Switzerland placed 4th, the US, 122nd!
6. It's Green.
Switzerland is very green, and we're not just talking about its alpine meadows.
It's actually one of the world's leaders in recycling and waste management, it recycles over 90% of all glass and tin cans, and over 80% of all steel and plastics, in fact, they don't dump any waste in landfills, all organic waste is composted and of other waste, 50% is recycled and the other 50% is incinerated and converted into energy.
7. It's Record-Breaking
Home to the world's longest staircase, 11,674 steps and 1,669 meters tall.
It also boasts Europe's highest railway station at 3,454 meters.
The world's longest train tunnel at 57km, the world's highest gravity dam at 285 meters, the world's steepest cogwheel railway, the world's scariest suspension bridge, the world's only peak-to-peak suspension bridge, and the world's largest machine, The Hadron Collider.
