UAE: End of Israel-Hamas truce 'devastating' - UN refugee chief
The U.N.'s High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grande, said on Sunday (December 3) it was "devastating" to see that the truce between Israel and Hamas had been broken.
Grande was speaking to Reuters at the COP28 climate summit in Dubai.
He called for another pause or ceasefire and said the abandonment of the peace process in the Middle east was a 'colossal miscalculation'.
A seven-day pause in the fighting between Israeli forces and Hamas militants, which had allowed the exchange of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners, collapsed on Friday. On Sunday, Israel stepped up its bombing campaign.
More than 15,400 Palestinians have been killed as of Sunday, according to Palestinian officials, in the conflict that broke out after a Hamas attack on southern Israel on Oct. 7 in which 1,200 Israelis were killed and more than 200 taken hostage.

STORY: Rescuers evacuated people stranded in heavily flooded areas in India's northeastern Assam state on Wednesday (June 22).
Pre-monsoon heavy rains have caused the rivers, especially Brahmaputra, to swell, causing many to flee to safer areas.
In Assam, at least seven people were killed in the last 24 hours, taking the toll to 44 during the current wave of flooding that began about a fortnight ago, officials said.
India's National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) workers used ropes to pull people out of flooded areas and took them in rafts after rescuing them from their inundated homes.
The NDRF said 14 teams with more than 70 boats and over 400 men were pressed into action in the flood-ravaged state.
The team had brought about 14,200 people trapped in the floods to safe places.
About 5.5 million people have been displaced, of which about 3.7 million are staying in government-run makeshift shelters on raised embankments or other higher ground.
In Nagaon district on Tuesday (June 21), people were compelled to use boats to commute with the water level being very high.
Meanwhile, a massive landslide in the northern Udhampur district caused a huge chunk of land from a hillside to fall into Tawi River which blocked the Jammu-Srinagar Highway.
