Modern Automotive Tariffs & The Chicken Tax • Cars Simplified
Tariffs have become a thing the US government is interested in expanding again, but the old ones are still in place. One of these old tariffs is the Chicken Tax, which was originally put in place as a response to European nations either banning or putting tariffs on US chicken imports. The food production portion of the US-imposed tariff may be gone, but the light truck portion is still affecting the US small truck market to this day!
In this video, Steve gives a brief history of the Chicken Tax and talks about some of the modern problems US tariffs are having on the automotive industry.
https://carssimplified.com/ - Does your car look like it is sagging or too low? This video will show you how to diagnose the problem so you don't have to throw parts at the problem, as well as help you determine if there is a problem at all! You won't even have to take off your wheels!
Ride height/ground clearance can be affected by suspension damage, sagging springs, worn bushings, worn strut mounts, or even purposely made that way with cut springs or performance springs.

We're replacing the reverse light bulbs on a 2021 Toyota 4Runner and wanted to know which LED style was the brightest. We already know LEDs tend to be brighter than incandescent bulbs, but we wanted to get the most out of our 4Runner's back-up camera at night, so we tested two LED designs.

Dex-Cool is an ethylene glycol coolant that was introduced in late 1995 with the 1996 model year vehicles produced by General Motors. It was a derivative of the original formulation of coolant that eliminated silicates and phosphates from the formula, in order to extend the life span of the coolant. However, the chemicals that replaced them would soften some seals, and didn't handle an imperfectly maintained system. The orange coolant quickly gained a reputation for causing cooling system issues, but wasn't entirely to blame...
Dex-Cool is still used by GM today, still a factory fill for new vehicles. One way or another, the issue has been resolved, but it's still an important part of GM history, and, in Steve's opinion, a story worth sharing.
Chapters:
0:00 Introduction & What is Dex-Cool
1:09 Why Use a Different Coolant?
3:22 Perfection Required
5:10 All Roads Lead to Failure
6:54 Orange Bailout
8:40 New GM, Same Coolant
9:32 Closing Thoughts
The General Motors chapter 11 bankruptcy filing played an important role in the story of DexCool, but the full story of that and the Motors Liquidation Company (MLC) is a tale for another video.

https://carssimplified.com/ • In the first episode of season four, Steve explains how to safely remove mold from car seats! As long as you have the right safety gear, it is a fairly easy DIY process!
So, I tried to keep this vague in the video, but I have been asked what I used in the video.
I used Meguiar's Carpet & Upholstery Cleaner to spray on the seats: https://amzn.to/2P3VIqi
As for the other things you need, I looked for some inexpensive options for you; you don't need anything expensive to do this job right, as long as the spray does its job:
Basic Microfiber: https://amzn.to/2KLoM2e
Detail Brush 3-Pack: https://amzn.to/2P1l87K (It comes with three types of brushes, the nylon one is for this job)
Scrub Brush: https://amzn.to/2P2Cu4b
Oh, and here is the face mask: https://amzn.to/2Mkkx2n
Way after making this video, I also discovered this spray specifically for mold: https://amzn.to/2DNMlaq
And also this mold-specific mask: https://amzn.to/2Tp9VzP

http://carssimplified.com/air_filter.php - This video came about due to a chance encounter in an auto parts store, watching a customer and a sales guy interact. Until then, I didn't think there was any confusion on the matter, but I have been inspired to make this video explaining the difference between an engine's breather filter and an air filter.
So, what is a breather filter? How is it not an air filter? Steve from Cars Simplified explains.

Next time you replace a wheel hub or hub bearing, keep the wheel studs! Automotive repair shops often strip the threads or knurling on the studs, and will need something to replace them with. The studs on the old wheel bearing definitely fit your car (you won't have to worry about ordering the wrong ones!) and will only cost you some time if you already have the tools! Removing the wheel studs when the hub bearing is off the vehicle is easier in some ways, but you need to be careful not to get pinched or snapped at by your tools!
If a wheel stud is stripped, obviously you wouldn't want to include that in your just-in-case supplies for the repair shop, but this removal technique should still work on them. Don't forget to recycle your wheel hub/wheel bearing if you can!

Work gloves: https://amzn.to/3LZm3om *
ANSI Z87.1 glasses: https://amzn.to/3LZLKoX *
(The specialty tool here is considered a ball joint separator, in case you want to find your own, but make sure the opening in the back is wide enough for the head of the wheel stud.)
