When LSD emerged in the late 50's many scientists were fascinated at this new drug's ability to simulate the symptoms of schizophrenia. Many users reported a "mix up" of sensory signals. Some heard colors or smelled sounds. A huge veil had been lifted and much was revealed about the process of the brain. The new drug promised to be a miracle to therapists whose patients needed an insightful breakthrough. Some doctors reported a 100% cure rate among chronic alcoholics. They reported under corect doseage and conditions the patient was able to have a transcendant experience, a glimpse at eternity. Feeling the prescence of Infinate Wisdom addictions dropped off easily. Much more was to be revealed about the eternal , universal or soul portion of human existence when suddenly all research was outlawed. The magic key to infinity had to be put back in it's box.

There seems to be a lot going on beyond our little world. Huge experiments in quantum physics seem to be proving a multi-dimensional model of reality. Psychics and Mystics have talked of these "visitations" since the beginning of time. Everything from alien sightings to religious visions could be explained by beings that co-exist with us and somehow pass into our dimension to pass a message or maybe just by accident.
This video is about my visitation. It happened quite unexpectedly on a very average day but it was just a little too weird. It really got me thinking. Who knows how much is around us that we can't perceive .
Imagine how frustrating it would be for a dead parent or relative to be close enough to see their loved ones making some huge mistakes but unable to warn them .
Time , mater , energy it's all a mystery. To be open is to live in amazement.

It's always perplexing to hear how wonderful the economy is going, how low the unemployment rate is and how high the stock market is soaring, when there are people literally sleeping on the street near your doorway. This is Los Angeles today. The streets are lined with tents. Freeway underpass's are mostly encampments. People wander down the street raving at the top of their lungs or clutching blankets with blank zombie-like stares. No one seems to know the reason or the solution so we simply live with it. As I sip coffee in a Starbucks on Hollywood Blvd three different people come up and rifle through the trash looking for food. While many in our society are looking for and achieving great success many others are simply searching for Another Successful Breakfast.
This song was written decades ago and things have only gotten worse. The argument can be made that poverty is always a part of society but does that hold water in the richest country in the history of the world. Perhaps its the new improved and cheaper drugs that are keeping people in a cycle of street survival. Could it be a backlash to the process of Empire Building, or maybe its a way deeper existential depression and despair about the possibility of a real future.

Going through a box of old cassette tapes, I found this song. It was me singing and playing acoustic guitar. The song had a eerie emptiness about it. It was as true today as it was 30 years ago. I decided to build a production around the original tape. I think the Beatles, "Free As A Bird." was a real inspiration about this kind of process. With modern tech it is really possible to bend things into shape. I actually used an online , " ai separation" service to separate the acoustic guitar and vocal from the original demo. The old vocal is on throughout the new production. It is the main vocal on the , "Patiently, was it me I was waiting for" section.
On another level its just another lonely train song. I like the surreal aspect of it . How someone could wander down to a train station to just hang out and realize 20 years had passed and they worked at the station. And then further to realize that they have vacated their body and are searching the travelers to try and find themselves.
Uncertainty Rides For Free
I've been standin
At the station for a while
In fact its 20 years
And three days now
I think I came to meet
Some travelling friends
Or maybe just to sit
and watch the people going somewhere
After three or four
Depressing years
The station master
Asked if I would like
To work there
Said, "You seem to
Live here anyway.
Why not take the
Passing time
And make it pay your rent ?
Patiently,
Was it me
That I was waiting for ?
All this time,
Hoping that an an answer
Would arrive,
In the dead of night,
And free me
From all of these reasons.
I Got myself a room
Above the store
Bought myself a deadbolt
To secure the door
I sit alone at night
And count my pay
Wonder if I should
Have bought a
Ticket for the train
Patiently,
Was it me
That I was waiting for ?
All this time
Hoping that an an answer
Would arrive
In the dead of night
And free me
From all of these reasons
Uncertainty rides for free
With a Guy like me
Uncertainty rides for free
But I'm not gonna
Live like this anymore
No I'm not gonna
Live like this anymore
No I'm not gonna
Live like this anymore
I see about a thousand
Fares a day
Happy people running
To be on their way
I stare into their
Eyes before they go
Searching every heart
For something
No one seems to know
Patiently,
Was it me
That I was waiting for ?
All this time
Hoping that an an answer
Would arrive
In the dead of night
And free me
From all of these reasons
Uncertainty rides for free
With a Guy like me
Uncertainty rides for free
But I'm not gonna
Live like this anymore
No I'm not gonna
Live like this anymore
No I'm not gonna
Live like this anymore

There is a feeling in a club or a bar when you have the perfect buzz and just the right song is on and you are surrounded by people you want to be with. It is that feeling of being in the Right Place. Success has often been described as being at the right time in the rignt place. That perfect combination when time and space conspire to bring you to a perfect moment.
This song takes a more sisnster view of the right place . Almost like a ritual that you are lured to , thinking that it will be the RIGHT PLACE, when actually it is the right place for the decadent entertainment to claim another soul, for circus to claim another freak, for the devil to claim another convert. Like all of consumerisim , all the glitz and glamour and money and fame is all to enslave. All to steal the freedom that naturally belongs to everyone . Freedom is the dirt and the wind and the forest and yet we crave the Bar the Booze and the debauchery .
You're in the right place
You're in the right place
if you like
the right place
There is a man
who will stand on this stage
in about an hour
and you will never forget
He's been through a lot
and he's gotta get off
so he's gonna light his soul
on fire
and burn it here
right in front of you
IF YOU LIKE TO SEE
THIS KIND OF ENTERTAINMENT
YOU'RE IN THE RIGHT PLACE
JUST TAKE ANOTHER BAIT
There is a girl
who used to come around
she'd sit high up in the rafters
looking down
She wanted to be the one
that everybody loved
She gave up her home and then
came out west
lookng for love
IF YOU LIKE TO SEE
THIS KIND OF ENTERTAINMENT
YOU'RE IN THE RIGHT PLACE
JUST TAKE ANOTHER BAIT
you're in the right place
no one can stop you
no one will care
a lock on the door
a cold lizard stare
it only took a minute
for it to swallow it whole
IF YOU LIKE TO SEE
THIS KIND OF ENTERTAINMENT
YOU'RE IN THE RIGHT PLACE
JUST TAKE ANOTHER BAIT
you're in the right place
to start your life
you're in the right place
you're in the right place
They lay in the Sunshine
Talking their trash
Eating the best food
They're never coming back
They got it made
They got it made
They got it made
in the right place
IF YOU LIKE TO SEE
THIS KIND OF ENTERTAINMENT
YOU'RE IN THE RIGHT PLACE
JUST TAKE ANOTHER BAIT
You're in the right place
You're in the right place.

Clip from Middle of the Sun by Abraham Cloud. About that coldness some of us feel from warmth. The song is actuall about the extremes of playing live shows to excited crowds then going home alone back into silence and solitude. Neither state is upsetting by itself but the juxtapostion of having one after the other can be a bit unsetteling.

Live at Ghengis Cohen on Fairfax in LA. It's Abraham Cloud with Rory Stalwick doing the classic acoustic theme of the 90's , "Another Successful Breakfast."
I wake up in a panic every morning, like there was something I forgot to do .
Something so important I start shaking. It takes a lot of coffee to calm me down
I'm living in an old abandoned drug store. Probably couldn't compete with the CIA
I should've listened to Jim Morrisson. Only lawyers survive the heat in LA
another smoke, another drink, another dirty magazine
another slow suicide attempted
another successful breakfast
There's someone laying in my doorway. They appear to be breathing but who really cares.
Summer sun can't cut the fog of air polution. We're all being cooked for breakfast today.
another smoke, another drink, another dirty magazine
another slow suicide attempted
another successful breakfast
A dollar-thirty-nine, gets me three eggs. potatoes and time,
Time to figure out a place to stay,
A quarter buys a paper. New statistics on tne Homeless.
There's not a whole lot left to say.
another smoke, another drink, another dirty magazine
another slow suicide attempted
another successful breakfast

"I sacrificed a piece of my mind for a piece of your pillow." Here's the hidden gem from "Another Successful Breakfast," called Breathing....by the light of the moon. Some heavy eighties attitude on a dreamy sixties bed. It's a Sinatra-esque ballad in a drug-den kind of way. Its perhaps Bing Crosby on Acid or Harry Belafonte in a straight-jacket. It's Duran Duran fronted by Jim Morrison or the Thompson Twins co-joined and backed by the Marx Brothers. Its the missing Cars tune or maybe Morrissey's hidden demo. It's you, its me. Its us and lets face it we're f^^ked.
