Musicians and singers of Donbass join the militia to fight against neo-Nazism in Ukraine. 'The scariest sound is the one that a shell makes, of course. That kind of whistling,' says Victor Petenko, Donbass militia private. He used to be a musician and played the drums in the Donetsk philharmonic. On 23 February 2022, he was conscripted for military service to the Ukraine special operation in the Donbass militia ranks. His squad consisted only of musicians. Their commander decided to give them codenames according to the instruments they played. “We had ‘Violin’, ‘Double bass’, all sorts of codenames. He said to me, ‘You will be the ‘Drummer,’" recalls Victor.
Even those who weren’t drafted joined the Donbass militia as volunteers. Francois Maud d'Émé was a vocalist in the Donetsk philharmonic. He could not be conscripted into the militia because of his French citizenship. But Francois decided his duty was to protect his new home, Donetsk, and enlist. Their colleagues continue to give concerts to brighten up the routine of civilians and wounded soldiers in hospitals. Even during the heaviest shelling, they continue to play on stage. So how do these performers fit in their new roles?

Mao Zedong - The story of the founding father of the People's Republic of China in 26 minutes. Mao Zedong (or Mao Tse-tung) was born on the 26th of December 1893 in Shaoshan and died on the 9th of September 1976 in Beijing. He was a Chinese communist revolutionary and the founding father of the People's Republic of China (PRC) which was established in 1949 and controlled by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). He was also known as Chairman Mao and ruled as the chairman of the CCP from 1949 until his death in 1976. He was strongly influenced by the writings of Karl Marx and Wladimir Iljitsch Lenin. Soon, he adopted Marxism-Leninism and his political policies, military strategies, and theories are widely known as Maoism. He was able to solidify his control through the "Campaign to Suppress Counterrevolutionaries", the "Chinese Land Reform" against landlords, the "Three-anti and Five-anti Campaigns", and through a psychological victory in the Korean War. With his launch of the "Great Leap Forward", he aimed to rapidly transform the agrarian Chinese economy to industrial. However, this led to the deadliest famine in history between 1958 and 1962. In 1966, he initiated the "Cultural Revolution" with which he wanted to remove "counter-revolutionary" elements in Chinese society. This revolution lasted ten years and was marked by violent class struggle, a widespread destruction of cultural artifacts, and a great elevation of Mao's cult of personality. Mao is blamed for a total of up to 40 to 80 million deaths throughout his term. Nevertheless, he is regarded as one of the most important individuals in the twentieth century and shaped China into a leading power.
