This new omicron variant of concern is all over the news. We know very little about it other than early epidemiology and genomic information. I saw it all over the popular press so I tried to find primary scientific sources for it. There are essentially none. In this video, I'll talk about what little we DO know and will make another video when actual new information comes out.

Recent study out of Sweden suggests that the spike protein can inhibit DNA damage repair and impair our adaptive immunity. Let's check it out and put it into some context.

SIREN study which is a great prospective study with over 25,000 participants looked how how protective previous infection with antibody production was for future covid infections. How good is natural immunity? The answer was quite good. 84% protective against BOTH asymptomatic and symptomatic disease.
The other SIREN paper looking at how effective vaccines are at protecting against asymptomatic infection.

In this video I kinda ramble on about Dr. Shankara Chetty and his ideas about covid treatment and the difficulties of early intervention trials in Covid-19.

We know that children usually have asymptomatic or mild disease. Does that mean they don't develop immunity? Previous studies suggest that adults with mild disease don't generate a great immune response. Is this the case for children?
