resident-evil-village-heisenberg.
Note: 2 shots from the cannon are both part of the cutscene, even though first one can be performed manually so save a couple of seconds.
This boss has only 6 attacks, 2 of which he performs only if player gets far away enough:
1) Collecting plates of metal around himself, then throwing them around, possibly hitting player, but creating shields against next attacks. It can be interrupted with shooting vulnerable spot, but getting close and meleeing him is impossible, because he puts power field on, and it doesn’t let player to move closer.
2) “Steel to Steel” - homing attack. Heisenberg puts his long “arm” on a ground and moves towards the player. I’m not sure if it has a certain timer, or it triggers randomly, and I don’t know exactly at what point happens target lock - because sometimes he misses player completely, and other times he seemingly cannot be dodged at all, forcing me to use firepower, which is unacceptable. So, it seems, that staying close and not letting him perform this attack at all is the only consistent strategy.
Other 4 attacks, that he actually uses against me here, are:
1) Swing with long (right) “arm”. If player is far, this can be dodged by staying at Heisenberg’s 1-2 o’clock, then turning 90 degrees and strafing away. For some reason, it’s a lot more consistent, that moving backwards facing him or turning around and moving straight away. Probably has something to do with player’s hitbox shape, but I’m not sure. Also, if player is close, this attack can be dodged by sticking to his left side, staying at ~8-10 o’clock.
2) Swing with short (left) “arm” - no matter, if player is close or far, this attack can only be dodged by moving close to him, to his 2-4 o’clock.
3) Long charge, followed by very long ranged attack, then few more hits. As I understand, it happens by cooldown, every ~100 seconds or so. An easy way to dodge this one is to simply keep close distance and stay on either side or behind him. The most important part here is to be aware of his next attack, when this whole sequence is over.
4) Rush, which either has timer, or starts after taking certain amount of damage, but on average, it happens every ~5 swings or so. Can be dodged by moving away, then to the side, as he starts rushing. It is also possible, to start circling around him, if you stand on his ~3 or ~9 o’clock, when he decided to use that move. This can last until long charge’s cooldown is over, or until he gets stunned. And it is a relatively safe way of hitting him continuously.
Now, to the actual tactic:
First attack is random - either left or right swing. And every next swing will come from different “arm”, effectively making every swing predictable. If I never get away from the boss, he will never use steel platforms, nor “steel on steel”, so there are only 2 other attacks to care about - long charge and rush. The former never presents any danger, if I keep close, and only the latter can be dangerous, if I’m cornered and cannot retreat fast enough. And then, the main trick is to remember the last swing, to know how to dodge the next. And that’s about it for the fight. It’s quite repetitive after that.
But things can never be too easy. Sometimes rush interrupts swings, even when those barely started animation - and only sound clue (line that Heisenberg says before the swing) will tell you, that the next swing will be from another hand. Same goes for stunning boss - either with raw damage, or after hitting his vulnerable spots enough times. Another thing that can happen is stunning him, while he prepares rush attack instead of a swing, and you may think, that it was swing that got interrupted and change side. Either of those things can lead to taking damage, and they all require training and concentration to not mess up. I honestly think, it could’ve been done better, for example, active arm could be changed, only if swing was at least half-performed or something. But no matter, we have what we have. At the very least, when boss moves his arms up and down between swings, stunning does not change his active “arm”.
