Balinese New Year aka Nyepi starts with the Ogoh-Ogoh Monster Festival, followed the next day with Silent Day, the last day of the year.
I was here in Bali last year for it, and my talk on the experience is just now making it to YouTube:)
What are your thoughts / tips / experiences?
Full Festival Vlog: coming soon

From Wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nyepi –
Nyepi is a Balinese "Day of Silence" that is commemorated every Isakawarsa (Saka new year) according to the Balinese calendar (in 2019, it falls on March 7). It is a Hindu celebration mainly celebrated in Bali, Indonesia. Nyepi, a public holiday in Indonesia, is a day of silence, fasting and meditation for the Balinese. The day following Nyepi is also celebrated as New Year's Day.[1][2] On this day, the youth of Bali in the village of Sesetan in South Bali practice the ceremony of Omed-omedan or 'The Kissing Ritual' to celebrate the new year. The same day celebrated in India as Ugadi.
Observed from 6 a.m. until 6 a.m. the next morning, Nyepi is a day reserved for self-reflection, and as such, anything that might interfere with that purpose is restricted. The main restrictions are no lighting fires (and lights must be kept low); no working; no entertainment or pleasure; no traveling; and, for some, no talking or eating at all. The effect of these prohibitions is that Bali's usually bustling streets and roads are empty, there is little or no noise from TVs and radios, and few signs of activity are seen even inside homes. The only people to be seen outdoors are the Pecalang, traditional security men who patrol the streets to ensure the prohibitions are being followed.
Although Nyepi is primarily a Hindu holiday, non-Hindu residents and tourists are not exempt from the restrictions. Although they are free to do as they wish inside their hotels, no one is allowed onto the beaches or streets, and the only airport in Bali remains closed for the entire day. The only exceptions granted are for emergency vehicles responding to life-threatening conditions and women about to give birth.[3][4]
On the day after Nyepi, known as Ngembak Geni (Relighting the Fire), social activity picks up again quickly, as families and friends gather to ask forgiveness from one another, and to perform certain religious rituals together. Fires and electricity are allowed again, and cooking of food resumes.
From Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ogoh-ogoh
Ogoh-ogoh are statues built for the Ngrupuk parade, which takes place on the eve of Nyepi day in Bali, Indonesia. Ogoh-ogoh normally have form of mythological beings, mostly demons. As with many creative endeavours based on Balinese Hinduism, the creation of Ogoh-ogoh represents spiritual aims inspired by Hindu philosophy.[1][2]

Visiting China? I wrote up some things you should know before going -- http://livinthatlife.com/china-travel-guide/
MyChina Internet experience:
- WiFi at Starbucks was usually around 5/1mbps .. fine for watching videos but painfully slow to upload video.
- I used ExpressVPN on my Mac and iPhone which was solid 90% of the time. I paid for 1 month which was like $12.95 or something.
*Someone reminded me that u can get 30 days free by using a referral link, so, here ya go! http://www.expressrefer.com/refer-friend?referrer_id=14144980&utm_campaign=referrals&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_source=referral_dashboard (get 30 days free, instead of the normal 7 day free trial)
- Any other tips much Welcome!!
What are we taking about:
Everyone knows about the 'great Chinese firewall' and how sites/services/apps like Facebook, Google, Instagram, Snapchat etc are blocked so China can use their own versions (which is smart and makes perfect sense)... But by using a VPN app (virtual private network) you can get around it easily... But it does slow your connection down a bit.... But even without a VPN, wifi speeds at Starbucks, hotels and elsewhere were not especially fast... around DSL speeds actually... single digit download speeds and around 1.0mpbs upload... So i was curious where people find that "superfast" wifi in China... and also the best VPN service to use.

Update 2019: Announcing my NEW Digital Nomad Masterclass
https://academy.livinthatlife.com
Just a stupid short clip of Delfim http://instagram.com/delfimalvaro from London UK trying durian fruit for the first time at the Chiang Mai night bazaar in northern Thailand.
Btw! cuz people r asking! Delfim is an online entrepreneur specializing in the Amazon Kindle E-Publishing space, aka making money from creating & selling ebooks, and he told me he does coaching for free right now!
I actually have always strongly recommend Kindle as a great option to get into online biz/ecommerce/digitalnomadism if you have little to no experience or startup capital so, now it's perfect I have a personal friend to refer ppl to for how-to, so go check out His Channel - https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCqNhWchabt9WgvjdE2iKjQQ
??
Durian is known as the King of Fruits, or the Smelly Fruit, and is a delicacy food in Southeast Asia.
I tried it 2 years ago and it wasn't too hot, but as I tried it more I adapted to it. It's fascinating in that some people love it to death and travel the globe for the sweetest durian like Durianrider or Mark Wiens, while it makes others want to puke. An interesting creation indeed.
From Wikipedia:
Travel and food writer Richard Sterling says:
"... its odor is best described as pig-shit, turpentine and onions, garnished with a gym sock. It can be smelled from yards away. Despite its great local popularity, the raw fruit is forbidden from some establishments such as hotels, subways and airports, including public transportation in Southeast Asia...."
Other comparisons have been made with the civet, sewage, stale vomit, skunk spray and used surgical swabs.[34] The wide range of descriptions for the odour of durian may have a great deal to do with the variability of durian odour itself. Durians from different species or clones can have significantly different aromas; for example, red durian (D. dulcis) has a deep caramel flavour with a turpentine odour while red-fleshed durian (D. graveolens) emits a fragrance of roasted almonds.

See, some durians are smellier and sweeter than others, but don't be afraid to give it a try..... Hey, When In Thailand, Right? :)
