HQ Audio Of Review: https://podcastage.com/rev/sm81
Today I review another industry standard small diaphragm condenser microphone, the Shure SM81. This microphone offers a crazy flat frequency response that sounds natural and realistic. It offers a tolerable self noise for an SDC at 16dBa and has 2 very usable high pass filters and a -10dB pad. The pad does have pops and crackles when engaging, the HPF dial/switch is a bit hard to maneuver, and it has a low sensitivity for a condenser. However, if you're looking for a neutral SDC studio workhorse, this thing seems like it would fit the bill well.

Today i review the Warm Audio WA251, a clone of the legendary Telefunken ELAM 251. This is a slightly V-shaped sounding microphone with a bump in the bass and low mids and a lift in the treble and air. It offers a relatively smooth sound character and a low noise for a tube mic of 12dBA.

Today I review the new Pure Tube from Lewitt. This thing offers a tamer top end compared to Lewitt's solid state mics and more detail and articulation than a lot of other tube mics. The studio set also comes with one of the best shockmounts I've ever used, and it has a self noise of only 7dBA which is crazy for a tube mic.

Today we’re looking at a cheap budget dynamic microphone, the FiFine K8, or as they call it the "FiFine Dynamic Vocal Microphone Cardioid Handheld Microphone On/Off Switch Karaoke, Live Vocal, Speech etc.”. This microphone is rather boosted in the higher frequencies, leading it to sound sibilant, and it also suffers from plosives. However, it does have one of the best off axis rejections I’ve encountered on a mic. So if you’re in a noisy environment, this microphone may be a good option for you.

Today I review the little brother to the most popular headphones on youtube, the Audio Technica ATH-M40x. These are very similar to the M50x, but with a flatter frequency response. The only complaints I have about these would be that they get warm over long periods of time, the cable system has a proprietary mount, and the mid frequencies seem to have a slight cut to them. Other than that they are relatively neutral and a decent option if you’re looking for a set of studio headphones.

Today I review a wireless gaming microphone, the Mod Mic Wireless. Full disclosure, this was sent to me by Antlion in order to conduct this review. This mic has great wireless functionality, but in the sound department I think it’s a step backwards from the Mod Mic 4 and 5. This loses all the body that was so appealing in the wired mics from Antlion, and the capsule seems extremely easy to overload. I think if you can get by with a wired gaming mic, you should go with the Mod Mic 4 or Mod Mic 5, they sound a LOT better. But if you absolutely NEED a wireless mic, this does still sound better than many gaming headset’s audio.

Today I review the classic looking Shure Super 55 Deluxe Vocal Microphone. You’ll be getting a very well built mic with a super cardioid polar pattern to help with bleed from other instruments on stage & feedback from the PA, a cut to the low-end to curb the proximity effect, handling noise and plosives, and a presence boost to help your voice sit on top of the mix. Additionally, this thing will make you look like a modern Elvis who is fronting a rockabilly band.

Today I review a $30 lavalier microphone from Sony. This is very similar to their older ECM-CS3, but it sounds a bit brighter. It is a stereo lav mic, it has a pretty healthy sensitivity, it does pick up a little bit of room tone, but the top end boost gives it clarity even while clipped to the collar of your shirt. The build quality leaves a bit to be desired, the cable is kind of short, and the top end can be sharp if your sound source is already bright. But for a bright budget lav mic, it's not bad.
