Lux Radio Theatre: War of the Worlds
Originally aired February 8th, 1955
A dramatization of the George Pal film, based off the novel by H.G. Wells. Earthlings are forced to fight an invasion force from Mars.
Initially, Lux Radio Theatre adapted Broadway plays during its first two seasons, but the show eventually began adapting films. These hour-long radio programs were performed live before studio audiences. The series became the most popular dramatic anthology series on radio, broadcast for more than 20 years and continued on television as the Lux Video Theatre through most of the 1950s.

Though primarily a supernatural/horror series, the show featured episodes in the genres of science fiction, mystery, fantasy, and human drama. Some episodes were so terrifying that numerous complaints were registered, causing some affliliate stations to drop the series.
