For the foreign-policy non-interventionist, some schools of thought in international relations are much better than others. "Liberal hegemony" (the favored school of neoconservatives) has long supported endless war and intervention by the US regime worldwide. We discuss how we can use "realist" research to move the foreign policy needle away from liberal hegemony and toward a more sane foreign policy.

The Human Action Podcast reviews another overlooked classic by Ludwig von Mises: 'The Anti-Capitalistic Mentality' (Mises.org/AntiCap). This book takes no prisoners, showing how envy motivates progressive and conservative intellectuals who fear dynamic capitalism. The real reactionaries, according to Mises? Socialists who want to keep everyone stuck at one station in life.
Our friend Andy Duncan (Mises.org/Duncan) from Mises UK, who recently reviewed the book, joins the show to discuss.

Professor Thornbury is president of a very different kind of school, The King's College in Manhattan. He joins Jeff Deist to discuss everything wrong—and everything that could be right—with universities today. Dr. Thornbury's prescriptions are radical: make education a la carte, offering a mix of degrees, certificates, and micro-certificates. Tailor programs to teach specific skills, and shorten the time undergraduates spend in school dramatically. Insist that all graduates have rigorous writing and public speaking skills. End the publishing model for academics, and replace it with a focus on classroom skills and open inquiry. Finally, make sure students still learn enough about history, philosophy, ethics, classics, languages, and rhetoric to navigate life beyond the digital world.

Looking for adventure and glory, William Walker leads a group of Americans into Nicaragua to join the country’s civil war, with the hope of “Americanizing” Latin America. This episode is the Part 1 of 6 of the story of William Walker’s attempt at establishing his own Republic of Nicaragua.
[CORRECTION]: At 7:46 Chris Calton refers to John C. Calhoun as Vice President at that time. However, as Chris notes in the comments, "Calhoun was a US Senator for most of the time Walker was in New Orleans. I was rushing through the early years, and I was not being conscientious of the timeline. Thank you for the correction."
Chris Calton gives a revisionist look at the antebellum period leading up to the Civil War. This is the 14th episode in the second season of Historical Controversies.

For many parents, the ongoing closure of public schools will simply reinforce growing suspicions that public schools just aren't worth it anymore. Maybe they never were.

Liberty vs. Power is a history podcast dedicated to what Murray Rothbard saw as the noble task of libertarians: "to de-bamboozle: to penetrate the fog of lies and deception of the State and its Court Intellectuals."
Featuring Dr. Patrick Newman and Tho Bishop, each episode is dedicated to exposing the cronyism that has fueled the growth of the American empire, and celebrating those precious victories in defense of liberty.
