Today we’re looking at the Sennheiser e906. This is a supercardioid dynamic instrument mic with a presence shaping switch. The off axis and rear rejection on this mic are great (although tonally, they’re unpleasant). The presence switch allows you to add a presence boost, leave it flat, or enable a presence cut; all of which will help make this a more versatile mic. All around, this is a great instrument mic, and I think it is a mic locker essential.

Today we’re looking at Beyerdynamic’s first USB microphone, the Fox. This mic records HD at 24-bit 96kHz, with great preamps that perform well on Windows & Mac. The microphone offers a very warm and smooth tone, but lacks quite significantly in the ability to adjust the microphones gain.

Today I review my new favorite broadcast condenser microphone, the Earthwork Ethos. This is an expensive mic, but it offers a powerful low-end without being muddy, a clear and detailed mid section without sound scooped, and an extended and open top-end without sounding over-boosted or artificial. It also rejects plosives extremely well handles handling noise like a champ. It’s expensive, but hacking shoot am I impressed by this thing.

Today I review a microphone from one of my favorite mics of all time, the AEA KU5a. This is a super cardioid active ribbon microphone that gives you that great ribbon sound without the issue of requiring a super powerful preamp. Additionally, it does a very respectable job at background noise rejection, has a built in high pass filter, and a 3M built in XLR cable.

Today we’re looking at the new Blue Yeti X, a full featured entry level USB microphone. This iteration introduces Blue Vo!ce support which allows you to add real time processing to your yeti (if you’re using a Windows PC). The Yeti X has a bit more bass to it and a little grittier high end when compared to the original Blue Yeti, the Polar Pattern button is easy to unintentionally press while moving the microphone, and the multifunction dial on the front can be a bit clunky and a bit of a pain to use on the fly.

Today i review probably the most affordable small diaphragm condensers on the market, the Behringer C2's. These cost $60 for a pair, so essentially $30/each. The sound is surprisingly good for that price, but it's not without it's flaws. On some sound sources the bass and low mids can get out of hand, and the treble boost is a bit artificial and harsh. If you're able to work around these issues, for $30/each, I think they're pretty good.
