Hey, everyone! Today I'm bringing you some exercises for a stiff lower back. It's a relatively common problem in our modern lifestyles. We spend too much time sitting.
So, onto the stretch already! We're going to be doing a cobra stretch. Easy right? Lay on the ground and push your chest away while keeping your hips on the ground. Not so fast! There are a few points to keep in mind.
You have to think about lengthening your spine while you extend it. If you don't do this your spine will bend unevenly. It designed to flex the same amount at each joint rather than a little or less along its length. Without this focus what usually happens is the lower back will extend a lot more than the rest of the spine.
Once you're in a good stretch position take turns looking over each shoulder. This will emphasize the stretch on the opposite side. Hold the stretch for 1 to 2 minutes and do it often throughout the day! ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZruf5hMPFQ
Looking to start a movement practice? There are 3 things you should really keep in mind. You're going to need consistency, attention, and variety.
You need to be consistent. Do something everyday, otherwise you won't make progress.
You need to be attentive or won't build good movement habits and will instead re-enforce poor movement habits.
And lastly you need variety. If you're doing the same movement day in and day out, you're not exposing your body to all the stimulation it needs.

Trigger points can cause some pretty stuff. About a week and a half ago I was freaking out thinking I had a major dental issue going on. Turns out there was nothing wrong with my teeth. So I've reassessed and I want to share a little trigger point self-massage for dental pain. I'm not saying don't see a dentist, but if you end up in my situation, dental pain with no dental problems, this may be a great place to start.
I'm going to share a quick overview of the sternocleidomastoid (SCM), masseter, and the temporalis. I'll tell you where the trigger points are, how I address them, and their typical referred pain patterns. If you want to get more info, I've included a link for my favorite trigger point reference below! Let me know what you think of the self-massage techniques in the comments below. Have a happy dental pain-free day!

The psoas can cause a lot of problems when it is tight and weak. But you can massage it out to restore normal length and function!
The psoas is often combined with the the iliacus muscles because they perform similar function. You may have heard of the iliopsoas or the iliopsoas complex. That is just these two muscles lumped together.
You can massage both of these muscles using the same technique. You just apply pressure in different places. For the psoas apply the pressure in the abdominal area and for the iliacus you apply the pressure to the front of the pelvis.
Use this self massage technique several times throughout the day for a few weeks and it will really help to keep your psoas at it's normal healthy length and function.

All too often changing old habits and starting a new healthy lifestyle is complicated. Not to fear! Today I'm offering 2 simple tips to improve your health. In fact, these 2 tips are so simple you can start now!
Simple tip number 1 is just to move more. The average American spends 6-8 hours a day sitting! This has some pretty major long-term health implications. So, if you want to improve your health, you're going to have to move more. No need to get fancy. Start by going for a walk every day. If you can get out into nature while you do it, all the better.
Simple tip number 2 is to cut back the sugar. Sugar is in everything and if you're spending tons of time sitting, you don't need it. Start with a food log for a week so you can get an idea of how much sugar you're eating. Next, try to cut that amount by half. This can actually have a dramatic effect on your nutrition!
There ya go! 2 simple tips to improve your health! Do you have more tips? Share em in the comments down below. Thanks for watching and I'll see ya next time!

Last year one of my goals was to eliminate all my pain. I've been in some kind of regular pain basically at all times for probably 15 years now. Unfortunately, things happened and I lost focus on that goal. However, this year I am eliminating all my pain and to do it I'm starting at the beginning.
The thing I love about natural movement is that you can follow the progression that everyone uses when first learning to move. It's the foundation for everything that comes after. Starting with basic ground movement can reprogram movement patterns that are used for more advanced movements. Ground movement can help loosen shoulders and hips and retrain the body to move efficiently. And that's where I'm going to focus for a while.
Let me share with you the movements that will be the core of my practice for the next several weeks to a couple months as I set after my goal of eliminating all my pain!

Today we say goodbye to our ferrets Finian Bearret and Thelma Weaselton. We put Thelma down last night and Fin left us in February. So it is with a heavy heart both our weasels are gone. They will be deeply missed, but we wanted to share their wonderfulness with you. They were little lights in our lives and their loss can't be measured. I hope you enjoy these clips in remembrance of our little terrors, Finian Bearret and Thelma Weaselton. We love you both.

It makes sense to want to improve your health and fitness as fast as possible. However, when it comes to getting in shape you shouldn't rush your fitness journey.
Today I want to take a deeper look at why you should have patience when trying to improve your physical performance. The different systems of your body adapt at different speeds. Some adapt very quickly and some take months.
Keeping this in mind can help prevent injuries and also remind you that fitness is a lifelong pursuit. Rushing the process can lead to setbacks and the secret to improving movement efficiency and health is consistency!
