Julia Faustyna made international headlines after claiming she may be Madeleine McCann, the British girl who vanished while on a family holiday in Portugal more than 15 years ago.

The 21-year-old Polish woman who believed that she could be missing British girl Madeleine McCann has finally received answers about her identity.

Julia Faustyna, who also goes by Julia Wendell, made headlines earlier this year after publicly speculating that she could be the missing toddler, who went missing at age 3 while on vacation in Portugal with her family in 2007.

But after receiving the DNA results, it was confirmed that Wendell is not McCann, who was born to British parents, Kate and Gerry McCann in 2003.

The results were announced on Tuesday, April 4, by Dr. Fia Johansson, who has been representing Wendell through this process.

"Julia's test results are back. We finally know the reality," Johansson announced via Instagram. "Although it is impossible to tell her for sure without the parent's DNA results on either side, the tests results speak to the origins of Julia's root."

"The rest results revealed that she is a 100 percent of Polish heart, with negligible influence from Lithuania, and Russia," the post read. "The DNA test results did not show any connection to British or even German roots."

But Johansson also made an effort to explain Wendell's motivation for going public with her claims, writing, "This story is much more complicated than a simple girl from a small town in Poland making a claim to get attention. She truly believed what she was saying, and with so many questions about her childhood it is easy to understand where she was coming [from]."

For those who need a refresher on the situation, Wendell was led to believe she was the missing child because of her strange, fuzzy memories from her childhood that signified she may have been abducted at a young age.

In addition to claiming that she was sexually abused as a young child, Wendell also remembered staying at a luxurious beachfront hotel beyond the means of her parents, which she believed was similar to the resort town of Praia da Luz, where McCann disappeared from during a family vacation.

Other strange memories included paragliding with an unknown man and hiding in a bathroom stall with another young Polish girl when she was little, though there is still no explanations for the flashes of memory.

Wendell's parents have also denied participating in DNA tests, and even accused her of “lies and manipulation," per The New York Post.

"What is amazing is [the] parent's refusal to resolve this nagging question for Julia," Johansson's post continued. "A simple DNA test by parents would have resolved many questions for Julia."

The parents of Madeleine McCann did not comment on the situation, though a spokesperson for the Official Find Madeleine Campaign said in a statement, "Due to an active police investigation, Gerry and Kate are not issuing any statements or giving interviews unless requested by The Metropolitan Police," per Fox News.
