I grew up poor in Miami. My family has been here since 1919. We moved around a lot.
One Friday I had the day off from work and a new RCA 8mm video camera and took my mom around Miami in my 1988 Tercel and videotaped places different family members had lived
over the years. Much of the audio and video is poor quality. The video tape had
degraded by the time I transferred it to digital and it looks like I filmed
it through a potato. Some of the narration is hard for even me to understand and I am the one talking.
Also, long parts that should have been cut were left in. We rarely stopped or slowed down so there was no time to tell about
places or people that would have made the video more watchable and memorable. This is
a very flawed video. There is no reason for you to watch it.
Nearly all of the people mentioned in the video are gone now. Many times in the video
I reference how the buildings shown are new and have replaced an older building
that is no longer there except in my memory. The people that live there now have
no idea of who and what came before them. I guess this old home movie is just my way of saying
to people that my Mom and much of my family was once here in Miami,
on a cloudy day in January 1991.
