The Monk by Allan McClelland | Audio Drama (1985) | Gothic, Horror
[Adult Themes, heavy use of sound-effects] ????????: based on the novel by MATTHEW LEWIS. Ambrosio, the monk, draws enormous crowds to his sermons, but in a city where superstition reigns with such despotic sway as in Madrid, to seek for true devotion would be fruitless. The gorgeous Madonna, the anxious novice and the reluctant nun understand more of the real passions unveiled in a Gothic tale of disguise, abduction, incest and murder.
Original: The Monk: A Romance is a Gothic novel by Matthew Gregory Lewis, published in 1796. A quickly written book from early in Lewis's career, it was published before he turned twenty. It is a prime example of the male Gothic that specialises in the aspect of horror. Wikipedia
