Credible's Welsh Football Odyssey Part 13: The First Welsh Football Star - Billy Meredith
The Gareth Bale of the Victorian Era, Billy Meredith was a player who was always way ahead of his time.

A skilful outside forward who could both create and score goals, his playing career would see him turn out for both of Manchester's top clubs (City and United) and a life free from tobacco and alcohol would see him play until the age of 49!

Billy had a great brain off the pitch as well; he chaired the first ever Players Union (which still meets to this day) and dabbled in many businesses over the years. He also had a role in a film and was a regular at Wales matches until his death in 1958, shortly after the Munich Air Disaster.

Here then is the story of Wales' first football superstar.
