以前村里每年杀年猪,可是要吃一年的,所以祖辈们都会想方设法的把肉储存起来够吃一年,猪小肠和大肠也会用来做成腊肠,肉肯定是不够只装肉肠的,就得加上豆腐,蚕豆和芋头这些食材来做,久而久之也成了我们当地的传统特色美食。今年家里做的腊肠,也够吃好一阵子了!

In the past, the pigs slaughtered during the Spring Festival were supposed to last the villagers for a whole year. So the older generations would try to store enough pork for a whole year. They’d use pig’s small and large intestines to make sausages. Since the meat wouldn’t be enough for making sausages, they had to add other ingredients, such as tofu, broad beans and taro. Over time, it has become our local delicacy. The sausages we’ve made at home this year will be enough for us for a while!

云南有三丫果的地方都比较炎热,人们喜爱酸辣,善于用一些酸的水果来调味烹饪,三丫果属于众多酸野果里最不起眼的那种,果核大,果肉少。但还是有很多像我这样的人对它情有独钟。版纳的三丫果最多,每种颜色摘一点,给爷爷泡了酒,熬成果酱做一个巨型汉堡,是真的美味而满足的幸福!
The Burmese grape is found in hot places in Yunnan. Local people like hot and sour food and are good at using sour fruits as ingredients in their cooking. The Burmese grape is the most inconspicuous among many wild sour fruits, with a large pip and less pulp. But there are still many people like me who have a soft spot for it. The Burmese grape is most abundant in Banna. I picked some of each color, and made liquor soaked with Burmese grape for grandpa. I also made a Burmese grape mayonnaise and drizzled it on a giant hamburger. It’s really delicious and made me happy!

要说我们家最喜爱的食物,那必定是和大米有关的一切,粽子刚好满足了我们这点爱好~每一年的端午节,我们家都会包很多粽子,经典吃不够的白粽蘸白糖,有肉有菌的咸粽,香甜软糯糯的甜粽,再加上应季的嫩荷叶和夏日必备小龙虾,提前过的端午节可太惬意了~
If you ask me what’s my family’s favourite food, it must be everything related to rice. Zongzi is one of them. During each Dragon Boat Festival, we make lots of zongzi: classic plain zongzi that go well with white sugar, salty zongzi filled with ham and mushrooms, fragrant and sticky sweet zongzi… Plus seasonal tender lotus leaves and must-have crawfish in summer, it’s so pleasant to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival ahead of time.

In Yunnan Dai cuisine, the most impressive and irreplaceable flavouring is lemongrass. It has an aroma of lemon and citrus that is fresh and strong. Lemongrass is frequently used in barbecue and stir-fries in Dai cuisine because it can reduce and relieve internal heat. In the hot summer, it's often used in cooling tea to relieve summer heat. Smelling this unique aroma of lemon, I feel refreshed and then I get a craving for Dai cuisine.

The charm of preserved pork and sausage is worth a year’s hard work and a long journey home. It is this unique flavor that I miss the most every year. The pig fed by our own grain, which has firm lean meat and delicate fat, is made into meat sausage and tofu sausage, as well as other preserved food: pork rib sausage, dried pork, preserved pork liver with salted egg yolk, and so on. They are all tasty. How tasty are they? They are eaten up as soon as they get dry. There are only four pork tripe sausages left in the house. I guess we’ll have to make them once again before the year is out, or we won’t have any sausage or preserved pork to eat in our house for the coming year.
