When I started DEEP SEASON during that "sterile year" the Cicadas were out. And now this year of publication, the Cicadas are out, all over the world! It's a cycle that I did not plan, but came about of its own happy serendipity. And it's this kind of cycle--deeply psychic, deeply seasonal-- that drives its point again and again in these verses.
