Three members of Tajdeed, a Shia cultural and religious organization in Bahrain, are to be put on trial for allegedly questioning the foundations of Islam, a move that is further deepening divisions between the country’s Shia majority and its ruling Sunni royal family. Two of the accused persons were identified as Reda Rajab, the organization’s president, and Jalal al-Qassab, a researcher for the association. The organization uploaded a series of videos on YouTube that have angered several prominent Shia clerics in the Shia-majority country. The videos were considered as an attack on Islam and called on believers to ostracize them. Tajdeed responded, via a statement, that the organization doesn’t question the Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad. Instead, they claim to challenge the opinions of scholars who came after the Prophet Muhammad, including modern-day clerics. "Al-Tajdeed Society will plead to reject the charges against it because it is a charge based on a misunderstanding as a result of a campaign of truncating and distorting the content it broadcasts, which aims, in particular, to sanctify the book of God from invalidation and criticize the illogical interpretations that have been added to it.” the statement read. Bahrain was previously rocked by massive pro-democracy demonstrations led by the Shia majority against the country’s Sunni monarchy during the Arab Spring protests in 2011. Recent court documents reveal two decades of sexual abuse of orphaned children by the very institution charged with their protection. The plaintiffs, survivors of horrific sexual abuse at a covenant in Speyer, Germany, described how 175 orphans — mostly boys ranging from age 7 to 14 — were ‘pimped’ out by the nuns to perverted businessmen and clergymen. Nuns rented out the young boys from boarding houses to pedophiles at the Order of the Sisters of the Divine Redeemer, during the 1960s and 1970s. The nuns, driven by their greed for compensation, initially supplied children to pedophile priests in the Archdiocese of Cologne, Germany. They also sought out wealthy businessmen to help line their pockets. Deutsche Welle (DW) News was the first to report the lawsuit against the Catholic establishment. The shocking 560-page investigative report was finalized in January 2021. The main abusers are now deceased, and many victims have settled with the church for financial compensation, which has prohibited them from joining the lawsuit. ? Pakistani police registered a blasphemy case against organizers of the feminist Women’s Freedom March in Islamabad. This march is held annually to mark International Women’s Day on March 8th. Organizers of the march condemned the allegations as “baseless and false.” Pakistan’s strict blasphemy laws mandate the death penalty for the offense of offending Islam’s Prophet and carry a life sentence for insulting Islam’s holy book, the Quran. In Lahore, a court rejected a similar petition for lack of evidence. The court stated that the demonstrators’ right to protest is protected under lawful protections for free speech. Allegations of blasphemy appeared to be revolving around doctored videos and images. Organizers of the march compared the original and doctored videos and proved the latter was intentionally made to appear as if the demonstrators were insulting Islam. ?
