Over the summer of 2021, we spent a lot of time searching the exposed shore areas around Loch Thom. During this time we discovered possible burial sites, a prehistoric roundhouse, sections of Roman road and remains of manmade structures. Our discoveries were logged with Historic Environmental Scotland and many have now been validated and added to the HES archives. There are still a lot of questions remaining but we were up against it in terms of time to research and document as much as we could. The water level has now returned to it's normal levels. We do not know when (if) it will be lowered in the future.

This farm ruin was found on Google Earth. We took the hike out to see what was left at the location. All that is left are the remains of the main walls and all have been demolished to no more than a few feet above ground level. Some well-established trees have grown within proving that this farm building has been abandoned for quite some time. Along the way, we had to travel several miles through an area of stunning scenery. We have shared some of that within the video.

A short video looking around the site of a former WWII era Anti Aircraft Battery in Scotland. This location was used during WWII and is now a ruin. The local council have taken action to secure all the buildings at the location in an attempt to prevent anti social behavior. We can see why, but this does limit access to the location.

Haco's Tomb is a chambered burial site dating back as far as 3300 BC. Originally, the tomb consisted of three chambers, although only one remains intact today. The entire structure would have been covered by hundreds of tons of rocks. This mound was known locally as "Margaret's Law" before its removal in 1772 to expose the burial chamber.

With breathtaking views of Loch Long, this video captures the essence of a forgotten place that is both beautiful and haunting. It is a perfect example of the past stuck in the present.

This is all that is left of a once large paper mill that was powerer by water flowing off the hills. No structures remain on the site. Just ruins and clues as to what would once have been. The site sits at the lower reaches of the Greenock Cut and was powered by the Shaws Water Works.
