More OnePlus One Touch Screen Issues - Fridge Test
Update 3: I ended up RMA'ing my phone and the replacement phone + the latest 5.0.2 CM12S YNG1TAS2I3 and this phone is working great now. It's is my daily driver again and I'm loving it again. The RMA process was a nightmare and took a very long time -- but in the end they came through with a new phone. (Which incidentally doesn't have any yellow band at the bottom either.) Issue is fixed, at least for me. Been using the phone this way for a few weeks without any issue.
Update: I applied a fix that OnePlus sent but all it did was return my phone back to CM11S 44S and didn't fix anything. Here's a new video I made https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euqz8DZYfgw -----
My phone has been having touchscreen issues like this for the last few weeks and I was hoping the update to CM12S might fix it... Sadly after I got the update, I experienced massive ghost swypes and difficulty in typing so I put my freshly updated to CM12S OnePlus One in the fridge for about 15 minutes. It comes out with a perfectly functioning touchscreen with zero ghost swipes. I then put it in my pocket for 10 minutes and when I take it out, it's a typical mess. Ghost swipes and I test typing which proves difficult as the phone is registering ghost swipes on the keyboard.

On the bench today we have a TRS-80 Model 1 that is having some strange issues. On a recent second channel video, I was doing a quick check-up of the machine and it suddenly started malfunctioning where the video output would go away.
In this video, I try to identify the fix the problem and at the same time also do a lower-case text upgrade to the Model 1.

I've been using a Rigol DS1052E on my bench for a while now but I figured it was time to treat myself and get an upgrade. I pick up a new Rigol D1054Z direct from Rigol North America, and like a kid, I couldn't wait to try it out.

I do a shoddy and half-assed teardown of one of these 2015 IKEA LEDARE 600 lumen bulbs. I don't pull the ballast out as for some reason I didn't feel like ruining a perfectly good bulb... But I look at the board construction and thermal management.
Construction appears to be decent on this especially considering the price. Will they last? Only time will tell but for the price I paid on sale ($2.25 each) they were really a steal.
Using a thermocouple I measured chip temperature at 73C and the metal surface where the circuit board mounts gets to about 49C. What is interesting is the exterior of the bulb (the white part) seems to get hotter than the metal tower the LED board is on. I measured that at 58C. I could verify this by feel as well (before it had heated up to such a high temperature.
This is with the dome removed and lamp installed in the IKEA Desk lamp seen in the video. An enclosed lamp would definitely push it to higher temperatures.
I was able to identify that each LED has two chips inside.
LUX measured: 1230 without the light guide installed (but dome installed) vs 918 as stock. Same exact bulb facing down in my IKEA desk lamp seen in this video or about 32% more LUX output in the downward direction. (In THIS lamp only.) This is a worthwhile mod if this is how you are using this light. Turns it into a much more "spot" style bulb.

During a recent Amazon sale, I picked up two MicroSD cards.
SanDisk Ultra 64gb MicroSD - $23 USD on Amazon as of 18 July, 2016 ($15 on sale when I bought it)
SanDisk Extreme 32gb MicroSD - $15 USD on Amazon as of 18 July, 2016 ($29 for 64gb)
Using my Thinkpad X250's internal SD card reader I do some benchmarks comparing the performance of these two cards. Note that this is a comparison on my particular machine. Your results may vary from the results I got.
Tools used in this video:
- ATTO Disk Benchmarks
- Crystal DiskMark
Shot and edited entirely on my phone. Sorry for the shaky footage.

I've been a longtime user of the TS100 soldering iron, and have been happy with it. This viewer donation is a nice step up and improvement over the TS100. I'm very impressed with it, especially considering the price.

Time to test out a new a new and better Memory Expansion board for the Tandy 1000 EX/HX. This one comes to me from viewer Robert and includes 384k RAM + 96k UMB but also adds Compact Flash (with XT-IDE BIOS) and a full DB9 serial port!
Note: Sorry about the bad audio, the new camera is pretty terrible in that department. I'm working on fixing it.
If you are interested in purchasing a completed board, a kit or a PCB from Robert please complete this google form:

You can email Robert at tandy.3in1@gmail.com if you have questions.

The boards are Open Source Hardware and you can see the Github repository here: [[Sorry, it's not ready yet. Email Robert for more information]]
Robert tested several CF cards and found that small Cisco 32, 64 and 128mb cards work well. I have good luck with the OneFavor brand along with some other generic looking Chinese cards commonly available from AliExpress. Your mileage may vary, so if you get a card that misbehaves, try another.
I have had great luck with these with PCs:
