The message of Pentecost: "I will give you an heart of flesh ...and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God."
A quick exegesis of the three Vespers Old Testament readings for Pentecost, with much lingering on the last, from Ezekiel 36:24-28. Herein is the message (result) of Pentecost: “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. …and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.” ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tRgh0Kj4RI
At the beginning of the Pre-Lenten season, Fr. Nicholas reflects on the Gospel of the Publican and the Pharisee by addressing the serious passions of pride, vanity, and desire for praise – and how those are countered by holy humility.

Theophany. Why was Christ baptized, why are we baptized, & what must resonate in our soul for us to be saved?
About why Christ was baptized, what happens to us when we are baptised. We also talk about the passage through the red sea, which points to baptism. Two kinds of people "passed" through the waters, but only one group was delivered. It is the same with Christian baptism, which has power, and purpose. If we do not live according to its purpose, we will not be delivered. If the words of the Apostle Titus, read today, which we discuss in detail, resonate in our hearts, nothing will keep us from our purpose and our deliverance.

A question during catechesis about the rough language of the Seventh Ecumenical Council. It’s not something that modern people are accustomed to, and it is something that greatly offends many people. How are we to understand this language, and in a larger sense, how are we to refer to and think about those who consider themselves to be Christians and believe things that the church knows are not true? In other words, what is a heretic, and what is heresy? We also discuss the recent Asbury revival, which any Orthodox Christian should understand with charity and in the light of true Christian teaching.

Len 5:25 A meditation about why Patriarch Joseph wept when his brothers came to him, afraid he might hurt him after the mourning time for their father Jacob had ended. “And Joseph wept while they were speaking to him.” (from Gen 49:33 - 50:26, read Friday in the Sixth Week of Great Lent, at Vespers

Commentary on the reading for Clean Wednesday, Vespers, Genesis 1:24-2:3. What does it mean when God said to man: "Increase and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over (all the creatures of the earth)"? The answer can be understood from the most important verse in the bible, just a few verses away: "Let us make man according to Our image and likeness". Great Lent is a perfect time to have this truth resonate in our hearts and for us to change. YouTube: https://youtu.be/9EleEu1r934

The World “celebrates” the Nativity of our Savior with much noise but it is actually a very quiet feast. We talk about the Gospel of Luke, which we read twice on the day before Nativity which shows that the Nativity of our Savior happens in the midst of the mundane. We reflect about how much holiness is around us that we miss. We also talk about the Troparion that is sung on the forefeast and its beautiful ending: “Christ is born to raise the image that fell of old.” All this is happening in the midst of the mundane, with all of our distractions and everything else. Everything matters! Perhaps we can do a little bit more to do things that will prosper us and those we love.
Troparion of the Eve of the Feast of the Nativity of the Lord, in Tone IV —Once Mary, being with child by a seedless conception, * was registered in Bethlehem with the aged Joseph as being of the seed of David. * The time came for the birth, and there was no room in the inn; * but the cave proved a delightful palace for the Queen. * Christ is born to raise the image that fell of old.
Partial, incomplete timestamps
0:00 – 8:10 The whole event of Nativity was missed by most of the world. Only a few animals and a few shepherds knew about it. We look at Luke 2:1-20 and ponder: what are we missing?
8:10 “Once Mary, being with child by a seedless conception…”
09:02 “Christ is born, to raise the image that fell of old.”
09:54 We should be careful … to pay attention to everything. Two simple examples, using my experience with my grandsons). What thing will we do, say, think, and pray that will make the difference?

We celebrate Divine Liturgy twice a month at the St John the Theologian Mission, Hardeman County, TX. On the 3rd Sat of Great Lent, we encounter St Paul’s laconic instruction: “For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.”. We talk about this “patience,” something the world does not understand, why it is necessary, how it is nurtured, and the great blessing it brings to this life and the next.
