Border Church - James and Galatians: It Takes 2 to Gospel, Part 6 - James 4
We look at how to prescribe the Antihistamine to sin and the devil. Presented by Brendan Valiant. Originally presented August 6, 2022 at Border Church, Australia.
How does the Bible view human nature? This is the complex question we will explore tomorrow. It breaks down into sub questions, such as:
- Are humans bipartite (two-part) or tripartite (three-part) beings?
- Do humans have a soul or are humans a soul?
- What is the difference between spirit and soul?
- Is the soul immortal?
- What happens to the human at death?
We will look at what the Bible states regarding these things, with our base passage being Genesis chapters 2 and 3. We will explore concepts such as the Tree of Redundancy, Sanctuary Beings and a modern analogy for death based on technology.

In this series on the prayers and pray-ers of the Bible we continue our journey through the Biblical narrative looking at prayer in the speeches of Job. Here is a summary of the passages we focused on in this study.
James 5:11 – Job an example of prayer
Job 1:1-5 – Job prayed for his children
Job 1:8 – Job’s character
Job 1:21 – Job’s prayer in grief
Job 2:3 – Job’s character
Job 2:10 – Job’s prayer in affliction
Summary of the speeches of Job and his three friends with verses focused on the prayers:
1. Job's Lament (Chapter 3): Job curses the day of his birth, wishing he had never been born. The theme of this speech revolves around the depths of human suffering and the desire to escape it.
2. Eliphaz's First Speech (Chapters 4-5): Eliphaz suggests that suffering is a result of sin, and those who are righteous will eventually be blessed by God. The theme here is the relationship between sin, suffering, and divine retribution.
3. Job's Response to Eliphaz (Chapters 6-7): Job asserts that his suffering is undeserved and questions why God would allow such intense suffering to befall an innocent person. The theme focuses on the apparent injustice of suffering. – verses 6:8-13; 7:16-21
4. Bildad's First Speech (Chapter 8): Bildad argues that God is just and suggests that Job's children may have sinned, causing their own demise. The theme here is the reaffirmation of divine justice.
5. Job's Response to Bildad (Chapters 9-10): Job acknowledges God's power but maintains his innocence, again questioning the apparent injustice of his situation. The theme revolves around the struggle to reconcile divine power with human suffering. Chapter 10
6. Zophar's First Speech (Chapter 11): Zophar claims that Job's suffering must be a result of hidden sins and calls for repentance. The theme is the presumed connection between suffering and sin.
7. Job's Response to Zophar (Chapters 12-14): Job criticizes his friends for their lack of empathy and reaffirms his innocence, while also expressing his desire to plead his case before God. The theme is the persistence of faith in the face of suffering and the need for empathy.
8. Eliphaz's Second Speech (Chapter 15): Eliphaz accuses Job of arrogance and again links suffering to sin. The theme returns to the idea of divine retribution for sin.
9. Job's Response to Eliphaz (Chapters 16-17): Job maintains his innocence and laments the lack of support from his friends, expressing his yearning for vindication. The theme centers on the need for empathy and understanding. 16:19
10. Bildad's Second Speech (Chapter 18): Bildad emphasizes the fate of the wicked, implying that Job's suffering is a result of his own wrongdoing. The theme is the consequences of sin.
11. Job's Response to Bildad (Chapters 19): Job asserts his faith in his eventual vindication by God and expresses his despair over his friends' accusations. The theme is the power of faith amidst suffering and false accusations. 19:23-27
12. Zophar's Second Speech (Chapter 20): Zophar describes the fate of the wicked, further implying Job's guilt. The theme reiterates the consequences of sin.
13. Job's Response to Zophar (Chapter 21): Job argues that the wicked often prosper, contradicting the idea that suffering is always a result of sin. The theme challenges the notion of divine retribution.
14. Eliphaz's Third Speech (Chapter 22): Eliphaz accuses Job of specific sins and urges repentance. The theme returns to the connection between suffering and sin.
15. Job's Response to Eliphaz (Chapters 23-24): Job expresses his longing to present his case before God, maintaining his innocence and again questioning the apparent injustice of his situation. The theme focuses on the struggle to reconcile divine power and justice with human suffering. 23:4-10
16. Bildad's Third Speech (Chapter 25): Bildad emphasizes human insignificance compared to God's greatness, suggesting that no one can be truly righteous. The theme highlights the contrast between divine power and human frailty.
17. Job's Response to Bildad (Chapters 26-31): Job acknowledges God's power and wisdom but insists on his innocence. He provides a detailed self-defense and calls for divine intervention to prove his righteousness. The theme explores the persistence of faith and the desire for vindication amidst suffering. Why does the Bible talk about two deaths? What happens when we die? Are we conscious or is death a sleep? What are Sheol? Hades? Abaddon? Gehenna? Tartarus? the Abyss? We start exploring these topics by setting forth the majority of what the Bible says. Over the next few weeks we will further explore other passages that have been stumbled over by Christians for centuries.
