Salem: The #MeToo Trials (Ft. Men Affected by The MeToo Movement)
Between February 1692 and May 1693, during The Salem Witch Trials, over 200 people were accused of witchcraft in the deadliest witch hunt in the modern era. Salem is considered to be one of America's most notorious cases of mass hysteria.
Between 2017 and 2018, during the #MeToo Movement, over 200 powerful and/or accomplished men were “brought down,” (according to the NY Times), for sexual misconduct. As in Salem, many received punishments based on allegations alone. This piece is not designed to promote the innocence of any of the men featured in it, but rather to reflect on the absence of due process.
