The nitrogen cycle in an aquarium or pond is all about the bacteria and how it processes ammonia to nitrite then to nitrate. Most filters stop there and the nitrate is not processed as that relies heavily on anaerobic bacteria which almost all available filter media cannot support. Biohome is different as it allows for good anaerobic bacteria colonisation as well as the more common aerobic bacteria. Therefore it completes the Nitrogen cycle.
Biohome filter media has a massive surface area for aerobic bacteria colonisation and also has a great capacity to provide an environment for anaerobic bacteria on the interior of the media.
Hugely porous and extremely efficient, the Biohome media converts ammonia and nitrite (as normal media would) but also reduces nitrate due to the anaerobic bacteria which live in it's core.
This reduces the need for large water changes so creates a more stable environment in your aquarium (freshwater and marine) and pond.
It is inert and will not release any chemicals / minerals into the water but it is advisable to rinse before use as dust may be generated during transit.
Types of Biohome media are as follows:
1 - Biohome Standard
A compact media suitable for overhead filters, trickle filters, sumps, external and internal filters.
2 - Biohome Plus
As above but with additives to ensure much faster colonisation by bacteria.
3 - Biomotion
A rounded media with neutral buoyancy. Suitable for moving bed filters, overhead filters, trickle filters, sumps, external filters and internal filters. Has montmonrolite clay coating to condition water.
4 - Biohome Ultra (large)
A larger version of Biohome standard with rougher feel. Extremely porous. Suitable for trickle towers, sumps, larger external filters, overhead filters and multi chamber koi filters.
5 - Biohome mini Ultra
A smaller version of Ultra, perfect for external filters, sumps, overhead filters, trickle filters and internal filters. Has the ultra porous structure in a more convenient size.
6 - Biohome Ultimate*

This video has my thoughts on the Black widow catapult (slingshot), the Pocket Shot and the Weihrauch HW45 air pistol (in .177 calibre, 6ft/lbs = UK legal limit for air pistols).
For the slingshots 10mm stainless steel balls were used, for the air pistol RWS superdome air pellets 8.3gr.
The cost, power and accuracy are taken into account when deciding whether any of them would make a good survival tool for a bug out / survival situation for hunting food (rabbits, pigeons, squirrels, pheasants, crows etc.).
None of the tools tested have been donated / discounted for review purposes - all were purchased by me full price as I really wanted to compare them.
Please note that the sections of the video where I am taking shots at the target have been edited to remove reloading times - no way can I reload as quickly as it appears on the screen. No shots were edited out and the 10 shots with each tool were all I took for the test.

Due to the high international shipping cost I am currently only taking filters from the UK but I'm hoping that as this series progresses a useful database of knowledge will be built up which will help viewers understand how their filters work, the limitations and the steps you could take to improve filtering capacity and efficiency.
The goal with any filter is to try and achieve FULL CYCLE filtration which is the reduction in ammonia, nitrite AND nitrate - if you look anywhere online you'll see people tell you that the nitrogen cycle in an aquarium ends with the production of nitrate which is removed by regular (often large) water changes.
That is HALF the cycle and is done by AEROBIC bacteria which favors highly oxygenated conditions and is very easy to grow on any surface.
The last part of the cycle (reduction in nitrate) is completed by ANAEROBIC bacteria which favors an environment which is very low or devoid of oxygen. It takes filter media with a very specific internal structure to support both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria to allow for full cycle filtration but a suitably sized, well set up filter, will allow the full cycle to complete which results in more stable water conditions and less water changes (typically 10% every 1-2 weeks). Canister filters will generally offer the best provision for filter media but even internals can be significantly improved to boost water quality and fish health.

The pump used in this video is an ancient Bermuda 1000 lph and this is the newer version: https://geni.us/cmCj2 - a pump from this range would make a decent sump pump.
Having a venturi which delivers great dissolved oxygen content is very important and the design of the Grow Greenie venturis is excellent since it works on a multi-venturi principle - that results in a better dissolved oxygen content compared to standard venturis and air pumps / air stones.
Imagine how much difference that will make to fish which require good oxygen levels.....or fish which are recuperating after being ill....oxygen is life and the more oxygen the fish can assimilate the quicker the recovery will be.
