This video is about riving oak by hand with an axe and a maul and some wedges. The oak wedge that I made really helped out and worked well.

In this short video I give an example to simplify the concept of "evaporation over rainfall" that is commonly used in permaculture discussions to indicate when the best time to "chop and drop" is.
My example only applies temperate locations similar to where my site is located. This applies to the majority of the U.S. however. For most, but not all of the U.S., when the sun is overhead in the summer, evaporation exceeds rainfall.
Chop and drop after the threat of the searing overhead sun has passed, in the hot/cold temperate regions this would be in late autumn/early winter when rainfall exceeds evaporation.
Desert areas like Arizona would conform to a different regime as would sub tropical areas like south FL.

We bought our farm here in the Missouri Ozarks in 2016.
We are homesteading on 40 acres and implementing a permaculture design that continues to evolve as we get to know our land better and better.
We try to post videos weekly-ish but sometimes there is just too much to do to get a video up every week.
