Final Fantasy IV [PC] Playthrough #049, NG+: Troia Castle; Lodestone Cavern: Dark Elf
This is video #049 in my playthrough of Final Fantasy IV for the PC. This is episode 9 of the second playthrough. I am playing on Hard mode.

Previously, the party acquired Cagnazzo's Tsunami augment from the Ancient Waterway and the twins' augments from the Elder of Mysidia. They explored the towns of Agart, Mythril, and Troia. Now, they will check out Troia Castle. Then, they will head to the Lodestone Cavern to pursue the Dark Elf.
The party resumes on the Overworld in the Troia region. They gear up for the Lodestone Cavern. Then, they enter Troia Castle.
Troia Castle (time 1:13):
The party chats with the NPCs in Troia Castle. Some have useful information.
In the east wing of the castle, there are three stairways leading down. The western stairway leads to a dungeon-turned-treasury that the party cannot access yet. Down the middle stairway to B1, the party finds a Bacchus's Wine in the southeast pot.
Down the eastern stairway to B1, there are four rooms, each with two treasure chests. In all, the party finds two Tents, two Hi-Potions, two Ethers, and two Ruby Rings. The Ruby Rings are a definite hint!
On floor 2F north of the entrance hall, the party finds the eight Epopts, Troia's leaders. Sadly, the Dark Elf has stolen the Earth Crystal and spirited it away to his lair in the Lodestone Cavern! He has magnetized the cavern's walls to prevent the crystal's recovery. If the party retrieves the crystal, though, the Epopts will let them borrow it.
The Infirmary is in the west wing of the castle. There, the party finds none other than Edward! A scene takes place. Whey they reveal that they are after the Dark Elf, Edward gives them a key item, the Whisperweed.
The party exits to the Overworld.
Overworld (time 14:06):
The party heads north from Troia.
Tellah reaches Level 25.
At the northern end of the region, they find the Chocobo Village.
Chocobo Village (time 15:28):
The Chocobo Village is a special Chocobo Forest where a Black Chocobo is available. The party chats with the helpful White Chocobo to recover their MP.
In the northwest of the Chocobo Village, there is a hidden container with Gysahl Greens. In the same patch of grass where the Black Chocobo wanders, there is another hidden container with Gysahl Greens. To the east of this, there is a hidden container with Gysahl Greens.
The party snags the Black Chocobo.
Overworld (time 16:54):
Aboard the Black Chocobo, the party can fly around slowly. They cannot direct the bird to fly over mountains. They can only land in a forest.
The party flies east to the heavily forested island. They land outside the cave entrance. After saving, they head inside.

Previously, we began Edge's Tale. Edge sent his pupils out to gather information. We started with Izayoi's Mission. She went to Troia and then climbed the exterior of the Tower of Trials. Now, we will conclude her mission and begin the next one.
Overworld:
Izayoi resumes on the Overworld outside the Tower of Trials. She follows the coast north and east to the dock. Before entering the dock, she unequips her gear.
Troia Coast (time 0:34):
Izayoi has no problem convincing the captain to ferry her to Eblan. A scene takes place when they get underway.
Afterwards, we can choose another of Edge's pupils. We begin Tsukinowa's story.
Mysidia (time 3:48):
Tsukinowa's Mission opens in Mysidia. An introductory cutscene takes place.
After the scene, we gain control of Tsukinowa. He is masquerading as a child named Lapin. He starts at Level 5. He comes with two Kunai blades, a Leather Cap, Foot Ninja Gear, and an Iron Armlet. He starts with the Ninjutsu abilities Gale and Mirage. He equips Edge's Kodachi blades and other gear.
Tsukinowa explores the town of Mysidia. A Black Mage is blocking the entrance to the Hall of Prayer, where a meeting is going on. Interesting!
In the Sundries shop, Tsukinowa stocks up on Potions and a few other things.
In the southeast of town, Tsukinowa talks to a little boy. He consents to having Toad cast on him.
In Toad form, Tsukinowa talks to the Black Mage outside the Hall of Prayer. Funny. Afterwards, he goes inside the Hall of Prayer for a scene that took place in Porom's Tale. He decides to follow Porom to Mount Ordeals.
Tsukinowa talks to the boy in the southeast to get un-Toaded. Then, he talks to the Professor in the Hall of Prayer. The Professor gives him a Boomerang! Thanks, prof!
Tsukinowa leaves Mysidia.
Overworld (time 21:08):
He travels east to Mount Ordeals. After saving, he enters the area.
Mount Ordeals (time 21:46):
Upon entering Mount Ordeals, Tsukinowa sheds his disguise.
Tsukinowa gains control in the Entrance area.
In the east of the second level of the area, there is a monster-in-a-box chest. A Navy Moth guards a Hi-Potion.
Tsukinowa reaches Level 6.
On the third level of the area, there is another monster-in-a-box chest in the east. A Sword Rat and two Spirits guard a Tent.
Tsukinowa jumps to Level 9 and learns the Ninjutsu ability Heal Pill.
Tsukinowa reaches Level 10.
In the northeast, Tsukinowa continues to the Trail area.

Previously, Heorot carried out San d'Oria Mission 2-3: "Mission Abroad" and visited Windurst and Bastok. At the end, he reached San d'Oria Rank 3. Now, he will carry out San d'Oria Missions 3-1 and 3-3.
Heorot resumes in his Mog House in San d'Oria. He heads outside.
Northern San d'Oria (time 0:49):
After donating some crystals to Achantere, T.K., at C-8 for rank points, Heorot talks to Grilau at D-8. He takes on San d'Oria Mission 3-1: "Infiltrate Davoi". Prince Trion himself wants Heorot's assistance.
Heorot enters Chateau d'Oraguille at J-7/J-6.
Chateau d'Oraguille (time 3:53):
A scene takes place when Heorot opens the Prince Royal's Room door at H-7. Prince Trion instructs Heorot to go to Davoi. Heorot is to find Royal Knight Quemaricond and bring the Royal Knights' Davoi Report back to Trion.
Heorot talks to Faurie at I-9 and chooses to leave the chateau.
Northern San d'Oria (time 7:11):
Heorot uses the Survival Guide at E-8 to teleport to Davoi, Norvallen.
Davoi (time 8:00):
When Heorot arrives in Davoi, another scene with Rochefogne and Vauderame takes place.
After the scene, Heorot gains control at J-7 just inside Davoi.
To the west, Heorot finds the scout Quemaricond running in the vicinity of H-7. If your level is low, look out for the Orcs. Quemaricond readily gives Heorot the Royal Knights' Davoi Report temporary key item to deliver to Prince Trion.
Heorot uses the Survival Guide at J-7 to teleport back to Northern San d'Oria.
Northern San d'Oria (time 13:11):
Heorot enters Chateau d'Oraguille at J-7/J-6.
Chateau d'Oraguille (time 14:16):
When Heorot opens the Prince Royal's Room door at H-7, another scene with Prince Trion takes place. His Highness is quick to act on the contents of the report. San d'Oria Mission 3-1 complete!
Heorot talks to Faurie at I-9 to leave the chateau.
Northern San d'Oria (time 16:36):
Heorot donates a couple more crystals to Achantere, T.K., at C-8 to earn more rank points. Then, he talks to Grilau at D-8. He is going to skip San d'Oria Mission 3-2: "The Crystal Spring", at least for now. That requires some fishing.
Instead, Heorot accepts San d'Oria Mission 3-3: "Appointment to Jeuno". Mission 3-3 is very similar for all three nations. Heorot is to go to Jeuno as an ambassadorial attaché at San d'Oria's embassy. Before he leaves, he needs to talk to Monarlais Halver at the chateau for details.
Heorot enters Chateau d'Oraguille at J-7/J-6.
Chateau d'Oraguille (time 19:17):
First, Heorot talks to Monarlais Halver at I-9. Heorot must talk to King Destin to receive a letter of introduction.

Previously, Heorot continued the Seekers of Adoulin mission line. For Seekers of Adoulin Mission 5-2: "Yggdrasil Beckons", he made a few failed attempts to defeat Ashrakk in Yorcia Weald. He will now make a few more tries against this difficult boss.
Heorot resumes in his Rent-a-Room Mog House in Eastern Adoulin. In his delivery box, he receives payment for an Earth Cluster that sold on the auction house. Thanks to the buyer! Heorot goes outside.

Heorot teleports to Lower Jeuno.
Lower Jeuno (time 1:54):
Heorot visits Waag-Deeg's Magic at H-9. From Hasim, he picks up scrolls of Barvirus, Barvira, and Barsilence. He uses them to learn the White Magic spells Barvirus, Barvira, and Barsilence.
At the auction house, he looks under Scrolls, then White Magic, and picks up a scroll of Erase. He uses it to learn the White Magic spell Erase, which removes a detrimental effect from a party member.
Afterwards, he teleports to Eastern Adoulin.
Eastern Adoulin (time 5:54):
Heorot uses the Waypoint at H-10 to teleport to Frontier Bivouac #1 in Yorcia Weald, East Ulbuka Territory.
Yorcia Weald (time 6:33):
Heorot arrives at Frontier Bivouac #1 at H-7.
At H-6, he examines the Wavering Flux. He chooses the battlefield for "Yggdrasil Beckons". He is taken to Yorcia Weald [U] for the battle.

Heorot, his Trust NPCs, and Morimar take another stab at Ashrakk. As usual, the battle goes downhill fast when he summons his three-headed pet. It ends when Davilas is defeated.

Heorot trades his Crests to Shami at H-8 for storage.
Then, he teleports to Bastok Markets.

Heorot trades his Copper A.M.A.N. Voucher to Isakoth at E-11. In Mjoll's Goods, he sells his loot to Olwyn at E-11.
Then, he teleports to Bastok Mines.
Bastok Mines (time 52:36):
At the auction house, Heorot puts three Riftborn Boulders and three chunks of Beitetsu up for sale. He also picks up an Arasy Staff, a Su1 Item Level 119 staff. He may try it out next time he challenges Dhokmak.
Heorot talks to Crying Wind, I.M., at H-10 to get his Signet renewed.
Afterwards, he enters the Residential Area.

Heorot signs off. Next time, he will do some more grinding.

Previously, the party began grinding for Magic AP by hunting Cactuars in the Maranda Desert. Shadow has been playing catch-up and has made excellent progress. They also finished lifting the curse on the Cursed Shield, resulting in the amazing Paladin's Shield. To wrap up, Shadow had a dream while the party rested at Maranda's inn. Now, the party will continue grinding in the Maranda Desert.
World of Ruin - Overworld:
The party resumes outside Maranda. The current lineup is Cyan, Setzer, Relm, and Shadow.
The party continues hunting Cactuars in the Maranda Desert. They continue running from the Slagworms to avoid gaining experience levels for now.
Setzer learns the spell Banish from Fenrir. Relm learns the spells Curaga and Arise from Phoenix.
Setzer has now mastered all Fenrir's spells. He equips Valigarmanda.
Shadow learns the spell Drain from Ifrit. He has now mastered all Ifrit's spells. Shadow equips Catoblepas.
Relm learns the spell Reraise from Phoenix. She has now mastered all Phoenix's spells. Relm equips Midgardsormr.
Shadow learns the spells Bio and Break from Catoblepas.
Cyan learns the spell Ultima from Ragnarok. Relm learns the spell Ultima from the Paladin's Shield. She learns the spell Quake from Midgardsormr.

The party lands near Maranda. Mog instead decides to equip Ragnarok and the Paladin's Shield.
The party continues hunting Cactuars in the Maranda Desert.
Cyan learns the spell Reraise from Phoenix. He has now mastered all Phoenix's spells and all spells from currently available Espers. Setzer equips Phoenix.
Cyan unequips his relics. The party rests with a Tent and then boards the airship.

Belowdecks, the party forms a lineup of Edgar, Mog, Setzer, and Shadow. Edgar equips a Ribbon, an Alarm Earring, and a Thunder Shield. He also equips Fenrir.

The party lands near Maranda and continues hunting Cactuars in the Maranda Desert.
Shadow learns the spells Hastega and Slowga from Quetzalli. He has now mastered all Quetzalli's spells. Shadow equips Fenrir. Edgar equips Quetzalli.

Previously, Rydia and Luca successfully repaired the Falcon and concluded Rydia's Tale. Now, we will get started on Yang's Tale.
From the title screen, we begin our third chapter, Yang's Tale: The Master of Fabul.
Fabul Castle:
As we start in Fabul Castle, Yang is in a training battle with three Fabul Monks. He can take them out easily with two Kicks or a few physical attacks.
A scene takes place in the training yard after Yang has wiped the floor with his monks. We meet Yang's daughter, Ursula. The Chancellor calls Yang to the Throne Room.
The scene continues in the Throne Room. Yang's wife now has a name: Sheila. There are new problems facing Fabul. Most urgently, Ursula has run off to Mount Hobs. Yang decides to go after her. Two Monks join him.
We gain control of Yang and two Monks in the Throne Room. Yang starts at Level 15 with Lightning Claws, Flame Claws, a Headband, a Kenpo Gi, and a Power Armlet. He now has the Cover Counter ability; he can protect a single ally from physical attacks and counter at the same time. Monk A starts with Flame Claws, a Leather Cap, and a Bronze Breastplate. Monk B starts with Ice Claws, a Leather Cap, and a Bronze Breastplate.
In the northwest of the Throne Room, a pot contains a Bomb Fragment.
East of the throne, a hidden passage leads to a treasure room. The chests here contain a Potion, a Tent, and 500 gil.
Down on floor 2F, the party takes the southern door to the ramparts, where they can access both towers. First, they check the West Tower.
On floor 1F of the West Tower, chests contain a Potion, a Phoenix Down, and a Potion. Also, a stack of crates contains Hermes Sandals.
Next, the party checks the East Tower. On floor 1F, a bed contains a Lustful Lali-Ho. I do hope none of the monks is named Rab. One of the monks warns about a powerful monster rumored to appear in the Impact Crater during a new moon.
On 2F, a collection of jars in the southeast contains a Bacchus's Wine. The deceptive dancer is still doing his thing!
On 3F, a chest contains a Hi-Potion.
On floor 1F of the main keep, the western door leads to the inn and sundries shops. The party picks up some Potions and another Tent. There is a save point here.
The eastern door leads to the weapon and armor shops. The party browses but does not buy anything.
The party exits south to the Overworld.
Overworld (time 21:22):
The party heads west to Mount Hobs. They take the eastern entrance to the mountain.

Davilas is currently working on Part 1 of the Version 3.5 storyline. Previously, he climbed the Holy Tower of Storm. At the top, he faced the Storm Demon Wenril and the Black Hydra Acragalena. Unfortunately, he was too late to stop Nadira from opening the nearby Disk Ruins. But at least Davilas and Estela are on good terms again. Now, Davilas will wrap up Part 1 of the Version 3.5 storyline by going to the Nadraga Temple in Ejarna and then revisiting Crows in Must Town. Then, Davilas will work on the quest to raise his level limit to 110. At the end, he will even start crafting with Woodworking.
Davilas regains control in his house in the Azlan housing area. Outside, he checks his mail and receives gold for items that sold on the bazaar. Many thanks to the buyers!
Afterwards, Davilas Zooms to Ejarna.
Holy City of Ejarna (time 3:25):
Davilas hits the pub and hires a support party. It's nice to see that a good Priest is available. Also, Davilas changes his vocation to Level 62 Sage.
As Davilas approaches the entrance to the Nadraga Temple at E-2, a cutscene sequence with Estela takes place. Looks like the temple has a strict no admittance policy right now. Davilas answers "Yes" to Estela's question. His next objective is to see Crows in the Must Town Underground.
After the scene, Davilas Zooms to the Must Town Underground.
Must Town Underground (time 10:31):
Davilas arrives at G-6 on the bottom level.
At D-4, he takes the northwestern door off the central hall into the conference room. This triggers a cutscene with Estela and Crows. Crows rewards Davilas with 190 Mini Medals for a total of 1,316, 832,000 experience points, 200,000 experience points, and 40,000 gold.
Afterwards, additional cutscenes play to conclude Part 1 of the Version 3.5 storyline.
When the scenes are over, Davilas regains control in the Must Town Underground. Davilas jumps to Sage Level 67. He learns the spells Moreheal (ベホイム), Kazam (ドルモーア), and Kazing (ザオリク).

Previously, Davilas finished carrying out quests that are prerequisites to Version 6.4 story events. In the Current Free People's Village, he carried out Quest 587: "Eteenel★Soul Food" for Momontal and learned how to make Hatsuratsu Beans. Then, at the Royal Army Headquarters in Current Kimbel, he carried out Quest 589: "To Step into the Future" for Theodolt and Melearde. Now, Davilas will begin the Version 6.4 storyline, "The Tale of Eternal Rectalis", by visiting Archangel Mitlar at the Heavenly Shrine in Folion.

Davilas takes the door at C-4 into the Heavenly Shrine. At E-5 on 1F, Shutron has story info.
On floor 2F, Davilas takes the door at D-3/E-3 to the Celestrian Chief's Room. Within, he talks to Archangel Mitlar at D-2/E-2 to get the story started. An event with Mitlar and Yuraiza takes place. Next, Davilas must head up to the Heavenly Altar.
After the event, Mitlar has story info.
Davilas leaves the office, goes downstairs, and exits the Heavenly Shrine. In the temple's exterior, he goes up the lift at D-4/E-4.
Then, he goes out the door at D-3/E-3 to the Heavenly Altar. A scene takes place. Sovereign Jia Red Genos has sent a couple of Jia delinquents to pester the temple: Jia Rubé, the girl, and Jia Saphir, the boy. While the Champions hold off some fiendish forces, Davilas and Yuraiza have a pest to deal with.
After the scene, it is boss time against Jia Rubé (ジア・ルーベ). The fiery crystal girl uses a lot of fiery attacks, starting with the humble Flame Slash and Flame Multislash. She gains Jia Prominence, a straight line attack, at yellow HP. When her HP gets red, she gains Jia Volcano, which hits a large area. Fortunately, Yuraiza is on hand to help the player party in this battle.
After the battle, another scene takes place at the Heavenly Altar. Even in defeat, Jia Rubé has the power to help Jia Saphir cause a bit of vandalism before they leave. I don't think a fresh paint job is going to help with that. Looks like the Champions have work to do.
Afterwards, Spael comes to Davilas and Yuraiza in a panic. The next objective is to visit Tetral in the Crystal Room under the Purging Fountain.
Davilas gains control outside the Heavenly Altar. He takes the lift at D-3/E-3 down to the temple's exterior.
At E-4, Sebrun has story info.
Davilas takes the door at F-4 to the Purging Fountain. Within, Spael at E-5 has story info.
Davilas takes the door at D-4/E-4 down to the Crystal Room. This triggers a scene with Yuraiza and Tetral. The Divine Sword Rectalis and the Shield of Astoltia were made in ancient times to counter Jia Kuto. Davilas must find a way to go back in time to the Age of Myth to learn more. So, Yuraiza asks Davilas to visit Melearde in the Current Royal City of Kimbel's Royal Army Headquarters.
That explains why we had to do stuff in Kimbel. The required tasks are: Quest 476, Quest 483, Quest 580, Quest 581, Quest 583, Quest 584, Quest 587, and Quest 589.
Davilas gains control in the Crystal Room. Tetral at D-2/E-2 is marked as having story info.
Davilas goes up to the Purging Fountain and then outside. He uses the Soul Candlestick to return to Astoltia.
New Eteene Village (time 30:50):
Davilas Zooms to the Current Royal City of Kimbel on Great Eteene Island.

This is video #027 in my Final Fantasy VII playthrough. I thought I was going to have to do a lot of farming to get the remaining Carbon Bangles, but I got a bit lucky. Before long, the party reaches the floor 66F elevator ... only to be rudely interrupted by Rude. The Turks take the party up to meet with President Shinra. After the scene in Shinra's office, the party is jailed in the cells on floor 67F.
This is a huge opportunity to manipulate your affection scores for Tifa. You can repeatedly talk to her. Each time you say, "(Leave it to me)", you add an affection point for her. Each time you say, "(Kinda hard)", you deduct an affection point for her. Obviously, if you want to date Barret or Yuffie, you can really stick it to Tifa and say "(Kinda hard)" numerous times. If you want a guaranteed date with Tifa, say "(Leave it to me)" several times.
Next, you can also manipulate Barret and Aeris's affection scores. If you think about Aeris or Barret first, she or he will earn three affection points. If you think about one of them second, that one will earn one affection point. The last one you think about gets nothing. If you want to date Aeris, be sure to think about her first. If you want to date Barret, think about Barret first, then Red XIII, then Aeris. If you want to date Yuffie, think about Red XIII first, then Barret, then Aeris.
Once you think about Aeris, you can get some sleep. However, when Cloud wakes up, odd things are happening in the building. Cloud, Tifa, and Aeris decide to follow Red XIII upstairs to see what's what.
