In this brief guide, we will cover how to fix the issue of LBRY using up too much space on your computer. We will go through this on Windows, but it will be a fairly similar process on Apple operating systems too.
At first, I wasn’t even aware that it was LBRY that was taking up space but later when my drive was almost full, I had to spend a ton of time searching around for the cause. With the new LBRY.tv platform accessible via a web browser I thought it didn’t matter and I could just use that instead. After finding out there was a 500 Mb upload limit for the site, I figured I still had to use the desktop application. If you compress videos with Handbrake, you should be able to eliminate this issue entirely and just use the website, but if you’re uploading huge videos, then you still need to use the application and may have this issue.
The main concern I had was if I deleted something, would it affect the rest of the application. I soon came to find that all the space was being taken up by video “blob” files in appdata > local > Lbry > lbrynet > blob files. These can be safely deleted without and repercussions and I recommend you do it regularly if you can’t spare the extra space. I would have probably left it if I could have changed the location of the files, but given I’m just using a small SSD for my main drive with my operating system, I had to find a solution.

Again, if you just use the website, this won’t even be a concern, but for users who are lacking space and using the desktop app, this is key.
