"The Frickin' Sweet Song"
World premier of a new Latin Jazz Song by Michael Martz. Michael composed and arranged this latin jazz piece, and it is performed by Kamiak High School Jazz 1, under the direction of Scott McKinlay. Michael is a senior at Kamiak High, and is going on to a career in composition of music for movie production. Michael turned 18 years old the night of the premier performance of his new song. Soloist John Stucki on Guitar, and the rest of the band as follows.Alto Sax, Amber Hambrecht, Marie Nowacki, and Devin Eski. Tenor Sax: Courtney Creech, and Travis Olson. Bari Sax: Kevin Ryan. Trombone: Jared Bence, Joshua Hegvik,Andrew Lauletta, Stuart Pitts, and Mitchel Lange. Trumpet: Michael Martz, Andrew Halstead, Nicholas Ness, Zachary Welsh, and Kenneth Cartwright. Percussion: Marcus Boyle. Bass: Abbey Blackwell.
I spoke with a band member who said he loved how Michael would take suggestions about his part, and rewrite to accomodate the suggestion. So the whole bands collaboration made this piece great! Michaels every moment, is about music. Happy Birthday Michael!

Kamiak High School Jazz Band, Jazz 2, Playing "Lil'Darlin" by Niel Hefti. The Kamiak High School Jazz Festival 2009/ Invitational. This is one of four songs they performed. Shades of Blue, Alone Together, and Blue Skies, the other three. I am making a DVD of the Invitational, I'm trying to put something on gigsplace, from each group that performed. The Jim Cutler Band performed some great stuff, and I am going to see if they will give me permmision to use some of the video I shot of their performance. I'm testing different HD formats. This one is using the new DivX Codec. Just $20.00, and it seems like a great tool for cutting in more than half the size of the video file, we will see here how it did with, 1920x1080 from my canon hv20, and converting it to HD 720p.
