They bash through a collection of noisy songs that are a little punker and rawer than those on their previous album. Easystandable combination of window-rattling punk and more restrained indie pop makes for a nice balance and shows the band growing just the right amount.

***"Stereolab"*** are an English-French avant-pop band formed in London in 1990.

***"The Cranberries"*** were an Irish rock band formed in Limerick, Ireland. Originally named the ***"Cranberry Saw Us"***, the band formed in 1989 by lead singer Niall Quinn, guitarist ***[Noel Hogan](https://cutt.ly/mvPT5VJ)***, bassist Mike Hogan, and drummer Fergal Lawler. Quinn was replaced as lead singer by ***[Dolores O'Riordan](https://cutt.ly/nvPYv31)*** in 1990, and they changed their name to the ***"Cranberries"***.
Then, they performed their first UK tour opening for the British band ***”Moose”*** throughout a series of three weeks. “***The Cranberries***” received more letters expressing interest from ***Virgin***, ***EMI***, ***Imago***, ***CBS***, and ***Warner***, which led Hogan brothers to quit their jobs.

Though they ran away from the dreamy jangle of their first hits, the Cranberries never sounded more convincing than on mid-tempo, folky pop tunes with polished productions. Sonically, that's precisely what Bury the Hatchet delivers, complete with little flourishes - a Bacharachian horn chart there, cinematic strings there - to illustrate that the band did indeed know what was hip in the late '90s.
All this planning houldn't come as a surprise, since Bury the Hatchet is essentially a make-or-break album, but what is a surprise is that the end result is the most consistent record of their career.

Although the time and place of their formation aligned them with both the Paisley Underground and roots rock movements, the group quickly staked out its own musical territory, divining their own unique brand of dark, surreal, desert rock.
