So I started this "Ghosts of the Past" unofficially with the Donnell Vista video as sort of prelude video on October 1st. This was my first GoPro 9 video I did two years ago. It is a bit messy since I was just testing the camera out, not sure I would upload this, but I do not mind my October videos being a little messy. I have been here before as you will see that is part of theme of this series. I will keep the old 1080p video up.
My blog on this one as well as my original blog that gives the history can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/yckzyu4x
Alright, the grand finale! Your homework after watching this the first time is to watch it again to match up every single rock to the movie clip(s). Using the pause button will help you do that!
I'll link the three blog entries below that I use for this location, but a couple of clarifications first:
Two things I say about the movie in the video needs some correction. I refer to Joel's cowboys as the "posse". I was using that more as a generic description of a Joel's group. Usually, in the old west movies, a posse is authorized by the law to hunt down the criminals. In this movie, if my memory is correct, it is just bad cowboys trying to take over the cattle empire and good cowboys trying to stop them.
The other thing shows my bias about why I am not a big fan of the movie as a whole. I said they spent most of the movie on a town set. That is not really true. It felt like they did since the outdoor scenes they show for the cattle drives were unremarkable to me. I seem to remember they used some stock footage for a bunch of the cattle driving scenes. It wasn't until the very end they used the terrain in very cool way.

Another quick one at Iverson Ranch. This is very close to the other recent video I did there. For still pics: http://tinyurl.com/yb2298a
Note: All my location videos that have movie clips in them are done for context on how the location was used and for educational purposes only. My commentary and criticism of the use of filming in these public locations is protected by "fair use" in Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976. If you want to see full movies then you need to buy the dvd(s) or watch them on television.

I wasn't sure show who I was rooting for here, but I thought it was interesting. The prey used the obstacles in the environment against the stronger predator. I took this a few months ago in a parking lot. Take it for whatever it is worth.
Not too much to report in my blog on this one. I make a few comments about the election, but really it was about my frustration with the media during the past year:

I did something like this a few years ago. Time to do the 2011 version.
Each year during the Holiday season the Train Collectors Association (TCA) puts up model trains at one of the big rooms at the Nixon Library. I explain each exhibit a little more here:

Just another quick "throwaway" video of a drive by this ranch out in middle of nowhere in Nevada. I put a limit on the audio so no need to turn up your sound...nothing is said or anything of importance with that. Just look at the terrain, imagine driving for about an hour on a dirt road with no one around, and then this ranch comes up. This is a "prelude" to a bunch of videos coming out in December. In other words, my "Ghosts of the Past" series is not over just quite yet.
My blog just repeats what is shown below, but if you have something you want to say it can be found here:

Taken from https://www.hmdb.org/m.asp?m=191201:
"The history of the Nine Mile Ranch has a long and interesting past, beginning with the Paiute Indians who inhabited this area long before John C. Fremont’s expedition into Nevada in 1843-1844. According to Fremont’s journal he camped in this area along a little creek now known as 'Rough Creek' in January 1844 on his way to California. Fremont’s camp was in the approximate location of the Nine Mile Ranch today.
With the discovery of gold in Aurora in 1860, this area was destined to become a main route from Carson City to the booming mining camps of the Esmerelda Mining District, of which Aurora and later Bodie were featured destinations. Along this route stage stops were established for the convenience of travelers.
Over the years, the Nine Mile has been known as Cobb’s Rancho, Nine Mile House, Nine Mile Station, Green’s Station, etc., but Nine Mile Ranch is what shows on most modern maps.
Notable people in history are known to have visited the area, including John C. Fremont, Kit Carson, Mark Twain, Governor James Nye, and J. Ross Browne, to name a few."

This begins my, "The Sinister Secrets of Black Star Canyon #1 (Halloween Series 2013)".
The story behind this Halloween series will be running on my blog throughout the month. If you like that then "cool", but if not then all the videos will just be showing you landmarks in the region. Either way, it might not make a lot sense anyways. LOL!
This is the Sil Mod trail that you have to sign up for to access it on a Wilderness Access Day with the Irvine Ranch Conservancy.

FYI: I used Incompetech.com's "Very Low Note" for the second half of this video. Usually I try to stay away from the really low drone bass sounds like that, but I wanted to use that for this video. My desktop speakers can handle it, but my laptop can't so I have to turn the sound down.

This is a preview ("throw away" video) of my Harding Canyon Falls Hike that will go up sometime this week. I wanted to add this footage and more to the main video, but decided against it since it did not flow very well with it. So, enjoy it for what it is.
