Part 15 of this series, stage by stage, on Normal for now. The very beginning is the most puzzling part, but just shoot at the plugs to advance. The Sick Sisters close us out of the standard game. It's a heavier version of the Mother fights, complete with Hosts coming at you the whole time. Frag when they get close and "finish" any who are highlighted to keep your health up, and either dash through the heavy beam OR hide behind an intact Host Pile for cover if you haven't destroyed them all! Pick up the Xaar to deal heavy damage to the Sisters, and Frag away when close to her. Easily could have (and should have) gone for S+ on this one, but was going for a trophy here.

Reupload from 2017. Original description:
Whew! This was one of the most challenging runs in this channel's history. Everything about the process was unforgiving and just plain awful in figuring out the final stage. A lot of things have to go your way, and many times the variation in item drops works against you in the last stretch. There are many buggy spots that can also end any run immediately in the third stage, and the missile drop section of stage 2 is brutal. As tough as the process may be, most of the bosses are simple, sloppy slugfests, including the Grandmaster. The Ouroboros boss that takes you to that final area does a lot of variable behavior as well, often making you eat a hit along without much you can do to prevent it. The spiky area in the middle of the final stage, however, is among the most sadistic in any game in recent memory. After well over 30 attempts and a lot of screaming and cursing, I finally put this one to bed.
Played on PSX disc on a PS2. No save states, pausing, turbos (even though Triangle acts as a rapid fire button, I avoided it), tool assists or any other cheats were used. Recorded via elgato and xsplit.

All those Contra games I've done on my channel, and yet none of them were the arcade version! Had to fix that. Very, very short game when it's all said and done, although there's a lot to learn and isolate. The Laser is your best friend this time around as opposed to the ol' trusty Spread Gun, although I might experiment with that as well in the future to see what kind of devastation I can unleash with it. But the Laser is the very first and very early power-up you can snag right at the beginning of the game, and when used properly, can really devastate the enemy. The Lair is definitely the trickiest stage of the game, and you have to play it very differently from the NES version! Still, not too tough overall compared to later and more refined run 'n guns out there.
Played via PS4's Contra Anniversary Collection. No pausing, turbos, tool assists, save states or any other cheats were used.

Oh my, was Raoh ever strong on Original! I played this very conservatively and defensively, and it worked... for most of the fight. He started to mount a comeback, however, and almost got me, with me getting just a little too careless late in the fight in anticipation of the Toki Back Jump Finish that didn't quite come when I expected it! I finally triggered it by giving him a taste of his own move!
However, even that didn't finish him, so I gave him a hit with the very powered up Toki amulet for the finish.

I realized there are far too few videos out there going in depth on what is thought to be one of the hardest boss fights in Castlevania history. In reality, there are tricks to it that will have you dominating Dracula in no time! Here I give commentary on where to stand, weapons to use and where you want to begin Phase 2, then how to avoid the "demon form" attacks and finish him off from a safe distance. Down for the Count!

No Damage against Willy! There WAS some damage from some goons prior, and of course against Jimmy later, but this is a little trick showing how to handle Machine Gun Willy without taking a single shot. It's definitely a "trick" but requires some good timing to trigger the trick. What you want to do is connect with an elbow just as the door opens, and having the knife out of play from earlier. If you can hit Willy with an elbow just as the door opens, then head down to the little brick "strip" near the bottom of the screen (watch for where the sides change from smooth to brick pattern in the bottom quarter of the screen), any bullets he shoots at you from that area will be BLANKS!! You can still take a hit from him swinging the gun, so stay out of his close range, but his bullets will miss every time. NOTE: This will NOT work if you haven't connected with the first elbow! Practice makes perfect.

Nothing special, but learning the ins and outs of this game. I'm sure I made plenty of mistakes that I will improve upon for a more streamlined hunt, but got the job done!

Closing out this series on Normal. This is more of an epilogue style mini-marathon than a full blown final stretch. Not to spoil anything, but I was really hoping for a Mirror Match style final fight instead of the pair of Heavy Cyborgs you fight intermittently. They throw the kitchen sink of standard enemies at you with a very short timer, but if you've been getting a hang of the Frag 'n Dash, that will build up to survivable time very, very quickly. Stick and move, and turn on your Overload as often as you can and this final stage will leave you feeling a tad empty and wanting a greater challenge.

May to the June baby! I thought I would come back to this idea now that youtube has done away with annotations and now that this game is available as part of a collection on the PS4. Much easier for me to do commentary that way. I go into brief detail as to how the process should go, but it will still take quite a bit of practice and even a bit of luck for things to go your way without dying.
