Welcome to my first flight on the Saab 340! On 24 April 2023, I flew back with my friend from Powell River to Vancouver after spending the day in Powell River to deliver Jack Talks at a high school, mental health talks program run by jack.org, a Canadian mental health organization. We toured the city and had lots of fun there. The Saab 340 is a Swedish built turboprop built at their factory in Linköping, Östergötland, about 180 km southwest of Stockholm. It is the other major aircraft type at Pacific Coastal Airlines, operating both the 340A and B variant, with some of the aircraft also operating for WestJet Link. Although not operated by Pacific Coastal, the Saab 2000 is an upgraded and lengthened variant of this aircraft, though it remains extremely rare as only 63 were built. Our return flight was originally scheduled to be with a Beechcraft 1900, but was changed to the Saab 340A a few weeks after we made the booking (a few days before our flight). In contrast to the flight that morning, the skies cleared up and we were treated with spectacular views of the Sunshine Coast the entire way down to Vancouver. The main differences between the 340A and B variant at Pacific Coastal is the seat layout: 340A has a luggage storage at the front and the lavatory at the rear, while the 340B has the lavatory at the front and an additional row of seats at the rear. Welcome to my first flight review for 2019! Fresh from the Count Me In Summit the past week, I'm beyond excited to head off for much travels this summer! Although I have been on a British Airways 787-8 before, this is my first time on their 787-9, which besides the longer fuselage, contains a very nice first class cabin which the 787-8 lacks. The economy class product is very much the same however, so here I'll focus a little on the product but more from the outside views.
