***"Garbage"*** is an American rock band formed in 1993 in Madison, Wisconsin. The band's lineup - consisting of Scottish singer and musician ***[Shirley Manson](https://cutt.ly/1bBcrip)*** (vocals) and American musicians ***[Duke Erikson](https://cutt.ly/gbBcyPD)*** (guitar, bass, keyboards), ***[Steve Marker](https://cutt.ly/FbBcoiN)*** (guitar, keyboards), and ***[Butch Vig](https://cutt.ly/NbBxPnj)*** (drums, production) - has remained unchanged since its inception. All four members are involved in songwriting and production.
A native of Viroqua, Wisconsin, Vig learned to play piano as a child and drums as a teenager. After leaving college, he met future bandmate Erikson in the band ***"[Spooner](https://cutt.ly/NbBxPnj)"***.

More diverse than their first two studio albums, musically more melodic and lyrically more direct, the band’s third album, ***"Beautiful Garbage"*** featured electronica fused with contemporary hip hop, with influences coming from 1980s new wave to 1960s girl groups.
***"Garbage"*** slogged through the trenches of alt-rock in the '80s, and they came together at the precise moment in the '90s when they could fashion modern-sounding music consciously picking up anything sonically interesting in the underground, crafting them together with skill and a keen commercial eye.
On their third record it's all more evident because of a more shiny, more sugary, and unabashedly pop coating.
It's unlikely to storm the charts like their first two records, especially since there aren't standout singles like on the earlier albums, but overall the record works better, perhaps their best album.

***”Pixies”*** are an American alternative rock band formed in 1986 in **Boston, Massachusetts**.
