Rainbow was formed by Ritchie Blackmore in 1975 after he left Deep Purple at the height of their fame. They were instantly successful and released a string of hit albums, with an ever changing line-up, between 1975 and 1983 when Blackmore broke up the group to join the reformed Deep Purple. This concert from their European tour in 1977 features the line-up responsible for the "Long Live Rock'n'Roll" album released later that year, including vocalist Ronnie James Dio and drummer Cozy Powell. Blackmore had to be smuggled out of Austria after a trouble with the police at a gig two nights earlier and was very late arriving in Munich, all of which seemed to inspire both the band and the audience to create a truly remarkable gig. This performance is from "Live in Munich 1977", available now.
Big Country - In A Big Country (From "Wonderland")
When Big Country took to the stage at the Grugahalle in Essen in March 1986 they were at the peak of their commercial success on the back of their No.1 UK album Steeltown and the release of their follow up The Seer (Which would go to No.2) a few months in the future. Founded by the late Stuart Adamson on his departure from The Skids, Big Country would go on to have a lengthy career extending well into the nineties but they can have delivered few finer performances than this legendary Rockpalast appearance.
Tracklisting:
1) Wonderland 2) Fields Of Fire 3) Where The Rose Is Sown 4) Rain Dance 5) Remembrance Day 6) Just A Shadow 7) Steeltown 8) Look Away 9) Chance 10) The Teacher 11) In A Big Country 12) Inwards 13) Harvest Home 14) The Storm 15) Lost Patrol 16) Tracks Of My Tears
I've never seen you look like this without a reason,
Another promise fallen through, another season passes by you.
I never took the smile away from anybody's face,
And that's a desperate way to look for someone who is still a child.
CHORUS:
And in a big country, dreams stay with you,
Like a lover's voice, fires the mountainside..
Stay alive..
(I thought that pain and truth were things that really mattered
But you can't stay here with every single hope you had shattered)
I'm not expecting to grow flowers in the desert,
But I can live and breathe and see the sun in wintertime..
CHORUS [x2]
So take that look out of here, it doesn't fit you.
Because it's happened doesn't mean you've been discarded.
Pull up your head off the floor, come up screaming.
Cry out for everything you ever might have wanted.
I thought that pain and truth were things that really mattered
But you can't stay here with every single hope you had shattered.
I'm not expecting to grow flowers in the desert,
But I can live and breathe and see the sun in wintertime..
CHORUS [x3]

For a while to love was all we could do
We were young and we knew
And our eyes were alive
Deep inside we knew our love was true
For a while we paid no mind to the past
We knew love would last
Evry night somethin right
Would invite us to begin the dance
Somethin happened along the way
What used to be happy was sad
Somethin happened along the way
And yesterday was all we had
And oh after the love has gone
How could you lead me on
And not let me stay around
Oh oh oh after the love has gone
What used to be right is wrong
Can love that's lost be found
For a while to love each other with all
We would ever need
Love was strong for so long
Never knew that what was
Wrong oh baby wasn't right
We tried to find what we had
Till sadness was all we shared
We were scared this affair would lead our love into
Somethin happened along the way
Yesterday was all we had
Somethin happened along the way
What used to be happy is sad
Somethin happened along the way
Oh yesterday was all we had
And oh after the love has gone
How could you lead me on
And not let me stay around
Oh oh oh after the love has gone
What used to be right is wrong
Can love that's lost be found
Oh oh oh oh oh oh after the love has gone
What used to be right is wrong
Can love that's lost be found
Oh woh woh after the love has gone
What used to be right is wrong
Can love that's lost be found
Oh woh woh after the love has gone
What used to be right is wrong
Can love that's lost be found
Oh woh woh
Oh woh woh after the love has gone
What used to be right is wrong
Can love that's lost be found
Woh woh woh after the love has gone
What used to be right is wrong
Can love that's lost be found
Woh woh woh

A new companion to The Beatles' first BBC collection, On Air -- Live at the BBC Volume 2, will be released Monday, November 11 in 2CD and 180-gram vinyl packages with a 48-page booklet. On Air's 63 tracks, none of which overlaps with The Beatles' first BBC release, include 37 previously unreleased performances and 23 previously unreleased recordings of in-studio banter and conversation between the band's members and their BBC radio hosts.
In the studios of the British Broadcasting Corporation, The Beatles performed music for a variety of radio shows. On Air - Live at the BBC Volume 2 presents the sound of The Beatles seizing their moment to play for the nation. Thrilled to hear these exciting recordings again, Paul McCartney said, "There's a lot of energy and spirit. We are going for it, not holding back at all, trying to put in the best performance of our lifetimes."
