Saved by the zero-press at the last second, literally! This was the first time I performed the zero-press trick. On Map 07, this allowed me to skip the arachnotron fight entirely, which saves a lot of time, and most importantly, makes this run a lot more feasible without damage. Once I understood the setup, and after some practice, I could perform the zero-press consistently. However it does require perfect alignment and sub-pixel positioning, so performing the trick can take some time to get the setup right. This, coupled with respawning monsters, can be the recipe for disaster. Many attempts ended with mancubi respawning and shooting fireballs at my back. It would have happened in this demo too, if I was literally one second slower. This nightmare+reality challenge was a fun learning experience. The strategies changed so much over the course of my attempts and practice. At first I just tried to kill everything and exit the level normally. By using the circle strafing strategy and using the SSG to weaken all the mancubi before starting to kill them, I was able to pull off the first part of the fight consistently; surviving without damage about 40% of the time. However, the 2nd fight was absolutely chaotic. Once the arachnotrons got loose I tried killing them with the rockets, and then the plasma, using a very specific route to avoid damage while killing them quickly. But soon the mancubi started respawning, and so did the arachnotrons. Sometimes I killed the last 2 arachnotrons in a double kill, which soft-locked the map. But most frequently I was exposed to that chaotic fight for so long that I ended up taking damage eventually. After a couple of hours it hit me. I *HAD* to do the zero-press, of course! If the Mancubi fight is easy and consistent, I'll just skip the arachnotrons entirely. I started practicing and learning to look at the right sub-pixels to understand the setup. After repeating it a lot, I was managing to pull off the trick in 10 seconds or less. That still sounded like an eternity if surrounded by Mancubi, so I had to kill them, but I couldn't kill them all otherwise the arachnotrons would shoot me. So I decided to keep the Mancubus near the chaingun alive, because it's blocked by the exit switch when I'm trying to do the zero-press. After a few attempts with SSG-only I managed to find a way to pickup the rocket launcher without taking damage, and that accelerated the killing even more. At the end, I'm very happy that I got this time of 46 seconds. Anyway, I believe that getting a better time is possible, especially by pulling off the zero-press faster. You may also try to leave 2 mancubi alive instead of just one, but that will make the run even riskier. Either way, good luck!
