'Murica vs. Deutschland! This video focuses on some customs and laws that differ between the United Sates and Germany. It's your classic, Germany and America Similarities and Differences video made by an American living in Germany. It's all subjective, and largely based on my experiences as an young American student living in Bonn and Nuremberg during my exchange year with the Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange Program (CBYX). This video also includes some fun facts about German that I researched that help to communicate these differences. The kind of "Gap Year" I'm referring to would be one with a focus on traveling and exploring other countries/cultures. Furthermore, I did not mean to insinuate that Europeans only make Gap Years in Europe. Many of the Germans I mentioned in the video had gone to places like Australia and the US, which of course, would be expensive as well. The point I was going for is that, even if a German takes an expensive Gap Year, he or she does not have to come back and spend $10,000 - $24,000 a year to attend University like American Students. I got lucky with my Gap Year to Germany, as the program I was with was a full scholarship funded by US Congress and the German Bundestag. *2) Oh, Yikes! I should have explained myself better here. Largely what I meant by "institutionally," is in reference by the Education System. In Germany of course, there are three levels of schools for students. Specifically, I was talking about all of the job fairs and career preparation for students not going to University, and instead right into the work force (to some degree). In the US, everyone is in the same school and everyone is expected to go to college. Students are not being taught about, nor approached by careers that require a degree of training, but do not require a University obtained college degree. *3) Ugh! I don't know why Ice Cream was the first example that came to mind because it's a terrible example. A better example would be paying for dinner at a restaurant with cash, or paying with cash at a food truck or something, because here in the US, you will be able to US a card or some other non-cash transaction method for both of these purchases. *4) Tipping in America is quite interesting.
