I apologise. In a previous video, I said you can run the heater in any orientation. This has proved to be incorrect. While technically it will work and is not advised as some diesel will leak out. But we can work to fix that issue. But not by blocking the little hole next to the glow plug. DO NOT block this, your heater will not like it.

TLDR - No.
There is a theory that you can run a 12V-rated Chinese diesel heater at 24V if you set the ECU to 24V in the secret admin settings.
In my test, I bought the cheapest heater available on eBay for £89. It has the very basic ECU and controller which lets you select 12V or 24V from the secret settings part of the menu.
If you change the ECU to 24V, connect a 24V supply and turn it on. It tries to heat the glow plug and then gives a glow plug error and stops.
Doesn't even kill it. Fires right back up on 12V.

As I was curious I hooked up my little oscilloscope to the outputs of the welder. Just to see what the waveform was like pre and post rectifier. And I connected the DC Sungold as well just to see.

Craig has sent over their newest version of the heater for us to have a look at.
It now has their own controller and features a ventilation mode.

The question comes back every now and again so I thought I'd address it.
Can you run a diesel heater on waste oil? Be it raw, filtered, or 50/50 diesel mix.
Part 1 we try to run on straight filtered engine oil.
It does run, but still leaves a residue in the burn chamber.
Still not recommended.

It's not which is better, but which is better for given applications. Need to heat something big try a propane torch. Need to melt something try oxy-acetylene. Need to not set someone's car on fire or melt a wiring loom? Induction is for you.
While the tool can be expensive. It's ability to deliver very focused heat without burning the surrounding area makes it the ideal tool for heating seized nuts and bolts.

Nice and quick this time.
Purely from the exhaust outlet, I could recover 500w to heat the water with. That's 500w that would normally be wasted.
