Jumbo Edition of the Dividing Line Despite Technical Challenges
Started off with some exciting news about the upcoming Rome/Israel/Athens/Ephesus cruise in September (see the previous article here on the blog). Then we looked briefly at Jemar Tisby's comment about James Cone before looking at a very, very odd piece from Facebook identifying Yahweh as Satan (yes, Marcion still prowls the earth). Then we got into the heart of the program by looking at a recent video by Jay Dyer on why he is no longer a Protestant. I challenged the Reformed in the audience to really know what they believe so that they can recognize these kinds of arguments. Lots of reading recommendations provided as well. Get a deep seat in the saddle for this one! Visit the store at https://doctrineandlife.co/ ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3xyHoUNwE4
Had to get the silly stuff out of the way first, so we looked at Andrew Sluder’s “KJB Numerology” where he uses verse numbers and their position in the Bible to prove its inspiration. Then we got serious and read through a Soteriology 101 article and dealt with its man-centeredness. Finished off with an RNS opinion piece that alleged that James Cone’s heresy really isn’t heresy, it is all about white power. Also had some further information about the Rome/Israel cruise and associated excursions. Visit the store at https://doctrineandlife.co/

Pastor John Samson is back to give his third teaching in a series on the Church, this time dealing with the often neglected subject of Discipline. A Church failing to exercise discipline among its members is an unloving Church, walking in disobedience to Christ.

Skype managed to work pretty well for us today as we did a live program from my hotel in Westbury, New York. Chatted about a bunch of things, from Cardinal Burke's comments about the current Pope through William Lane Craig's response to an inquiry about the atonement. Managed to get back to Brian Zahnd, and then toward the end of the program I touched briefly on the Robert Gundry controversy. Don't know if we will be able to sneak another program in before I come home a week from today, but we will try anyway!

I very much appreciated the conversation between George Farmer and Allie Beth Stuckey on the issues between Roman Catholicism and Protestantism. I listened to the conversation and wish to offer some thoughts from someone who has spent decades on this topic.

Some folks were kind enough to link me to examples of Joe Rogan repeat common mythology about how the Bible was collected, the canon, Constantine, etc., so I took the time today to deal with those issues, as well as respond to a number of claims made in one clip as Rogan interviewed Lawrence Krauss, a well known atheist and former professor at ASU.
I think Joe Rogan would benefit greatly from viewing my 2009 debate with Bart Ehrman, found here https://youtu.be/5K-AOfj1Axg .

Visit the store at https://doctrineandlife.co/ We had our first “e-guest” in our new studio today, Dr. Tom Buck of the FBC, Lindale. We talked things SBC as well as about the book of Hebrews, how to preach it, who wrote it, etc. Then toward the end of the program I made some comments about the McGrew/Slick debate on “total depravity” (I just looked and it took place November 30th of last year), and I looked at 1 Corinthians 1 as a needed context to deal with the issues raised in the debate. About an hour and 45 minutes today.

Managed to sneak in a third Dividing Line this week (since I have no idea what the next few weeks will bring, for, uh, medical reasons). Yup, talked a bit more about fairness, consistency, etc., and then moved on to a bit more on textual criticism, traditionalism, and the Comma Johanneum. I don’t know when the next DL will be, but, we will let folks know here, on Twitter, and on Facebook. Unless, of course, we get kicked out of social media before then!
