Drones are now commonplace and it is self evident that there is a real risk of conflict between unmanned and manned aircraft.
In some countries, guidelines on the operation of drones have been issued and subsequently some have been enshrined into law.
In the UK, the Civil Aviation Authority supports the development of drones but also recognises the risks.
Rogue operators of drones continue to cause problems, not just for aviators and commercial aircraft, but also for legitimate operators of unmanned aerial vehicles.
There have already been reports from pilots of drones flying dangerously close to aircraft.
In a report published in 2018 the CAA stated that there have been "seven confirmed cases of direct in flight contact between drones and civil or military manned aircraft worldwide".
And while none of those seven were in the UK, the same report goes on to say that there were 59 occasions between April 2016 and March 2017 where UK pilots reported "suspected drones in proximity to their aircraft".
However, as the report reminds us, there is a difference between flying in proximity and actually colliding with an aircraft.
The consequences of such a collision will obviously depend on several factors, not least of which is the size and weight of the UAV and the manned aircraft.
How To Fly Your Drone Legally
Commercial and recreational drones operate from ground level up to a ceiling of 400 feet.
Remember, this is measured AGL, from where the drone pilot is standing.
So if you're on top of a 500' hill or cliff and you launch your drone you can fly up to 400' above you.
This would put your drone 900' above sea level.
Aircraft, except for landing and take off, generally operate above 500 feet above ground level.
However, there are exceptions; low flying military aircraft is one well known example.
Anyone who is familiar with Mach Loop in Wales, or any of the other low flying practice areas, will understand how suddenly such aircraft can appear.
Emergency services helicopters and other helicopter types are also unpredictable in terms of where they may appear below 400 feet.
So the onus remains with the UAV operators to take the necessary precautionary measures.
Situational awareness is essential. Even though a drone pilot may be operating legally with the land owner's permission, checks need to be made for any grass airstrips or private helicopter landing areas nearby.
As the Drone Age evolves the technology is maturing. For some time now DJI's software has disabled flight of their drones within the proxmity of airfields around the world.
So it's a sign of positive progress

In this video I tell you about Vidnami, the video creation software that I’ve been using for several years.
Vidnami, formerly known as Content Samurai, is the software I use to create the videos that I upload to my YouTube channel, including of course this one.
I first started using this software in September 2016 and since then I’ve made over 350 videos with it. Without it I would not have been able to develop my YouTube channel which now has over 20,000 subscribers.

The text can appear in one of nine places around the screen.
Or it can be hidden from view, like this.
The video clips you see come from a database of hundreds of thousands of free to use clips.
And you can also choose from over a million of free to use still images.
The music you can hear in the background is one track out of tens of thousands included in the software.
Again, all part of the package!
If you can’t find the video clips, images, or the soundtrack you want you can upload your own.
Don’t like the sound of your own voice? Vidnami has built in realistic AI voices in a variety of accents that will read the script for you.
I love Vidnami because it is everything I need in a video creation tool and the support is excellent. There’s also a Facebook group for users in which you can pick up ideas and inspiration for new tricks and techniques.
There’s little I dislike about it

So how can we steel ourselves against this onslaught? How can you gird your loins and stand tall and confident when the world seems to be going to hell in a handcart?

Drone Aerial Photography For Promoting and Marketing Golf Clubs and Country Parks - http://www.redspan.com
Drone aerial films are a great way to showcase golf clubs and country parks. In this example we see shots of the Skylark Golf and Country Club in Whiteley, Fareham, Hampshire, in England.
As you can see from this DJI Phantom drone footage shot in September 2014, early morning is an ideal time. It captures the dew on the grass and the long shadows cast by the trees.
Most photographers are aware of the two golden hours after dawn and before sunset, but it's the morning when the dew gives this silver effect.
Golf courses are easy to film as the fairways are by design wide and long open spaces free of obstacles.
However, as tempting as it might be to film all 18 holes of your golf course it might be advisable to limit it to a selection. You can have too much of a good thing and the attention of the viewer is likely to wane after a few minutes.
You can of course film every fairway and hole, edit it into sections, and embed each into your golf and country club website. This will give the keen golfer a virtual tour of each hole which they can examine at their leisure.
So with a little imaginative editing you can create videos designed for various internet marketing purposes:
1. A general video, perhaps 3-4 minutes long, that introduces the golf club
2. A video of each fairway and hole, and perhaps another for the club's amenities
3. Aerial photos and films of action, people, events
Once you've created all this yourselves or arrange to have it done for you, there is another step that needs to be completed so that people find your videos on YouTube.
The video needs certain tweaks and fine tuning in order for it to stand a good chance of being found on YouTube for any specific search terms.
Just like websites, YouTube need SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) to get ahead of the competition or just to appear to those who are seeking the information it contains.

2. Elon Musk, the billionaire behind companies and projects like SpaceX, Tesla, SolarCity, and Hyperloop has announced his vision of a commercial rocket service for fare paying passengers on Earth.
In the short video clip on his Instagram account you can watch the vision unfold. Passengers board a fast boat and are transported out into the bay to the rocket launch pad. Lifts take them up to the passenger capsule for boarding.
The rocket is launched and flies outside the Earth's atmosphere before re-entering in preparation for landing. The rocket in question is the same design that Musk plans to use to send manned missions to Mars by 2024.
Using this method of low orbit rocket travel Musk anticipates journey times of Hong Kong to Singapore in 22 minutes, London to Dubai or New York in 29 minutes, and Los Angeles to Toronto in 24 minutes.

What is a reflector telescope or what is a reflecting telescope?
A reflector telescope is a telescope that uses one or more curved mirrors to form an image by reflecting light. Of these mirrors, the primary mirror is the most important, as it functions as the first and largest light gathering source. The primary mirror alone, or in combination with other mirrors, focuses the gathered light to the focus point, where the light is gathered on the secondary mirror. From the secondary mirror, the resulting image is redirected through the eyepiece, which contains a series of lenses, and from there to the eye.
What is the difference between a refractor and the reflector telescope?
The basic differences between reflector and refractor telescopes is the kind of lenses that are used and how they manipulate the light that is gathered into the telescope. A refractor telescope uses two lenses to bend collected light in order to produce a magnified image. A large, or objective, lens, rests at the bottom and bends the light into the eyepiece, or ocular lens. The refractor telescope was the first type of telescope invented. The first refractor telescope was designed in 1609 by Galileo.
The first reflector telescope was designed by Nicola Zucchi at about the same time Galileo designed the refractor telescope. However, it didn’t work well due to the primitive nature of mirror grinding techniques of the time. When Sir Isaac Newton revisited the design in 1668, he overcame many of the problems with the reflector design by adding a secondary mirror at a right angle to the first mirror. The Newtonian design is still widely used in reflector telescopes.
What are the benefits of a reflector telescope?
One of the reasons reflector telescopes have grown in popularity is that its design allows a large amount of light to be collected for less expense than that of a refractor telescope. Many large telescopes use a reflector design, though extremely powerful telescopes tend to make use of hybrid designs that combine reflector and refractor approaches. The Hubble telescope even incorporates reflectors in its design.
