There's been a lot in the news lately about the Obama Justice Department supposedly wanting to take away peoples 2nd amendment rights. And the issue of illegal guns going to Mexico and contributing to the gang violence has brought up discussions as to whether actions proposed by the Justice Department might be violating 2nd amendment rights. Obama in his recent press conference with the President of Mexico, in answer to a question about banning assault weapons said he thought they could do it and "still respect the 2nd amendment right to bear arms".
And just the other day the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in a case involving Alameda County in California that the 2nd amendment applies to individuals.They were wrong.
Every so often the discussion of the 2nd amendment crops up as it's doing now and the same people make the same mistake and show the same ignorance regarding the 2nd amendment.
Publicly there are few politicians or people in the news media well versed enough in the Constitution to get it straight. That and the fact that most of them are afraid of getting a lot of angry letters from people who don't want to hear that truth or politicians who are afraid that speaking the truth will cost them votes and typically politicians and journalists always take the cowards' way out. But the plain truth is, once and for all, the 2nd amendment has nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with an individual's right to own a gun. And never did. There is no Constitutional right to own a gun.And there never was.

As an example, their sanitary habits and the level of disease (here) contagion prevalent in their home environments are introducing diseases not seen in their host countries for decades, if not centuries. Rarely are they in excellent health, have marketable skills, have adequate education, or are self-supporting and willing to add to their host society by assimilating into the culture, adopting customs and habits, and learning the native language.

President Obama isn't waiting for congress when it comes to raising the minimum wage on federal contract workers.
As promised during his State of the Union address in January, Obama signed an executive order on Wednesday raising the minimum wage on all new federal contractors from $7.25 per hour to $10.10 per hour. In case you missed that, it applies only to new contractors. Everyone else currently getting paid below $10.10 will continue at that rate.
The president has made it no secret that he wants to raise the minimum wage nationwide to $10.10, though the Republican-led congress isn't exactly jumping on the idea. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, about 3.6 million Americans -- roughly 4.7% of the workforce -- earn at or below (for example, jobs paying tips) the national minimum wage of $7.25 per hour. Premier Kathleen Wynne stresses a new Ontario pension plan to be unveiled in the spring budget is "not a tax," but mandatory savings for retirement.
Fighting back against what she deemed "attacks coming at us" from the federal Conservative government, which opposes the scheme, Wynne said Ontarians need more for their golden years.
"This is not money that goes into the provincial treasury," the premier told reporters Tuesday as she unveiled a new technical advisory group to help design the pension plan.
"Taxation implies that this is somehow money that goes into the provincial treasury to be spent by government. It's money that goes into plans, money that's then invested in the economy and then creates a return for people in the future," she said.
"This is not a tax. This is about an investment in the future. It is money that will go into a plan that will allow people to retire more securely."

Donald Trump has set up a task force to study the United States Postal Service in a sign that his criticism of the agency’s deal with Amazon is turning into action.
The president issued an executive order late on Thursday creating a body to evaluate the “operations and finances” of the Postal Service, including its package delivery pricing.
Mr Trump has long criticised Amazon’s package delivery contract with the Postal Service as an unfair deal that loses money for the post office.
Earlier this month, he tweeted: “I am right about Amazon costing the United States Post Office massive amounts of money for being their Delivery Boy”.

Jeff Bezos’ sprawling e-commerce giant Amazon reportedly raked in more than $5.6 billion in U.S. profits in 2017, but despite that, the company essentially paid $0 in federal income taxes.

Turban-wearing Sikhs in Alberta will be allowed to ride motorcycles without a helmet starting April 12.
The exemption to the vehicle equipment regulation in the Traffic Safety Act was amended by an order from Transportation Minister Brian Mason, the provincial government announced Thursday.
Manitoba and British Columbia already have an exemption.
Mason said the exemption was granted at the request of the Sikh community as recognition of their civil and religious rights.
"We think that the number of people who will be wearing a turban and not a helmet is going to be very small," Mason said. "So we decided on the balance that this was the right thing to do."

All three major election forecasting models saw an uptick in the likelihood of Republicans winning the six seats they need to retake the Senate majority over the past week, movement largely due to the party's strengthened chances in Alaska, Colorado and Iowa.

Women’s reproductive rights trump the freedom of Liberal members of parliament to vote their conscience on abortion, Justin Trudeau said, adding that it’s time that his party “actually defended rights.”
“I have had a lot of Liberals come up to me and say, 'I don’t quite understand, isn’t the Liberal party about freedom and about defending people’s rights?'" Trudeau said in an interview with CBC’s The Sunday Edition with Michael Enright.
“Absolutely it is. And the rights that women have fought for over decades to be in control of their own bodies and to control their own reproductive health is not a right I’m going to brush aside to defend the freedom of speech or the freedom to vote a particular way for an MP."
Trudeau has said that any Liberal MP, regardless of their personal beliefs, would have to vote against any proposed legislation that could limit a woman’s right to an abortion.

Tijuana border crossing shut as Mexicans protest against arrival of migrant caravan
The United States closed its busiest border crossing with Mexico for several hours on Monday, following a day of protests in the city of Tijuana against the arrival of the migrant “caravan”.
Queues at the Tijuana crossing stretched back for several miles as traffic into the US was blocked while new security barriers were installed, causing anger among the 110,000 people who enter the US every day.

Ian Calderon, the Democratic majority leader in California’s lower house has decided that the big problem his state needs to address is straws. Yes, straws.
