12/5/2013 - Special Dividing Line with Voddie Baucham, Shai Linne, and Ivey Conerly!
We had to overcome some technical issues at the start, but still managed to work out getting Voddie Baucham, Shai Linne, and Ivey Conerly together to discuss the recent controversy about Reformed Rap. Hope everyone will listen and consider carefully, especially since there were points of disagreement or divergence even amongst our panel. Great time! ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82a3xou5hds
Covered a number of topics today with a short discussion of how a small number of ne'er-do-wells can create faux controversies for not positive reason, then talked a bit about Alistair Begg's "swing and a miss" response, and then got back to Carl Trueman's speech on classical theology. An hour and fifteen minutes today.

Went almost two hours today but it’s an important program. Started off responding to William Samuel Bruce’s comments about me being a part of the “New Calvinism.” Then we moved into a response to James Fox Higgins on the subject of sola scriptura, its definition and defense (really important). Then following that theme we want back to this video featuring Cameron Bertuzzi (non-Catholic) and Matt Fradd (Roman Catholic) and tackled the comments on purgatory rather in-depth. Finished up the program playing a clip from my 2001 debate with Fr. Peter Stravinskas. Visit the store at https://doctrineandlife.co/

Today we started responding to Leighton Flowers’ attempt to respond to our basic discussion of one simple truth and reality: the Provisionist view of man’s will and God’s grace is completely in line with the Roman Catholic view at the time of the Reformation; that is, Flowers stands firmly with Erasmus against Luther on this topic. This is all about the sufficiency of grace versus the mere necessity of grace. This has been a theme we have discussed for decades. Flowers’ attempt to respond revealed so many important errors and weaknesses in the Provisionist position that we simply could not allow the opportunity to pass. We got about 20 minutes through the 50 minute or so response, so, be ready for another RFG in the near future!

So we reviewed William Lane Craig's comments about how the prayers of football fans could influence which world God chose to actuate (even trying to figure that one out will put you in something like a causality loop that will turn your brain to mush and make you a Jerry Seinfeld fan) and then played his comments on his most recent podcast where he said, "No, no, I will not debate Calvinism against a fellow Christian." So those of you who hoped to hear Craig defend his position in formal debate, hear the cross-examination with equal time frames---you know, all that stuff that is so beneficial and useful (and Craig can't argue that point, since, of course, he debates as much as I do), well, so sorry. That debate can only take place in some other possible world that evidently could not be actuated. Probably due to Bronco's fans or something. Then the phones lit up and we took calls on all sorts of topics. In fact, one caller just kept moving from topic to topic, so we even got a few extras in for the fun of it!

I was joined my Michael Brown today to discuss his new book, Outlasting the Gay Revolution. I had read the book a few months ago, and it is now available. We discussed the principles he lays out for a “multi-generational approach” to the subject. We covered that during the first 45 minutes, and then we discussed two issues together, one a graphic Michael had posted on his FaceBook page about Noah, grace, and obedience, and the other Michael’s comments about T.D. Jakes in a recent Line of Fire broadcast. As usual, our goal was to model dialogue in such a way as to clarify and edify, and hopefully that is what happened.

Visit the store at https://doctrineandlife.co/ How do we think presuppositionally? Today we took at look at two issues, one with Brandan Robertson and his “Jesus was a racist” video, and then on to a debate on Open Theism with Chris Fisher, and his amazing claim that Yahweh gains knowledge by “counting water” in Isaiah 40:12. Hopefully helpful examples and teaching!

I wish there was a way for me to easily make notation of all the topics when we do open phones, but alas, I have not mastered that skill. So we talked about Mormonism and textual criticism and inerrancy and even a call about the Christian view of medical intervention for someone who is truly (genetically) intersexed! Also had a long call about resources on church history. So, a little something for everyone on today’s program! Visit the store at https://doctrineandlife.co/

Not sure it was fair I had to compete with the President’s speech (which a friend described as a sleepy grandpa trying to talk at 2am), but we covered some neat upcoming events (mainly on the trip to and from G3), talked about some fundamental and foundational issues relating to Romans 13, and finished up looking at a flurry of new studies and papers related to the ongoing politicization of the Covid 19 story.
