This week JB Beverley sits in as cohost with Scott to discuss a very tragic American saga: the epidemic of young White Americans dying at record rates from overdoses from opioid drugs. The phenomenon can be traced back to the 19th century but became a major catastrophe once the Sackler family in business at Purdue Pharma marketed the drugs Oxycodone and Oxycontin to treat persistent pain using surreptitious means to deceive the public into thinking they were less addictive than street heroin. Excellent discussion documenting a sad series of events we are both all too close to.

Long, a 3rd positionist politician from between the two World Wars who massively increased the standard of living for the working poor of his home state of Louisiana as governor. He had a meteoric rise to prominence in the national politics of the Great Depression and butted heads with everyone from J.D. Rockefeller to FDR and unsurprisingly was assassinated in 1935.
