Jews in Europe admitted to poisoning the wells and springs causing the black plague
The jews and the well poisoning (Black Death) of Europe 1347
The Black Death wiped out approximately 40% to 60% of Europe's population, an estimated 25–50 million people.
A brief contemporary account by a Franciscan friar from Franconia, Herman Gigas, 1349
The Strasbourg Archives contain communications between neighboring cities regarding the poisoning of wells, the confessions of jews and the punishments given.
It was/is believed that the poisoning of the wells was an international conspiracy to wipe out Christians.
A jew confesses that a rabbi sent him, by a jewish boy, poison in the form of a powder with a letter that commanded him to put the poison into the commonly used public wells of the town.
He was shown identical letters addressed to other jews giving similar orders.
The details given during the confessions from the jews were similar throughout the cities.
Many confessions also included that the leading members of the jewish community, including even the humbler jews, all knew about the conspiracy to poison the water sources to kill off the Christians.
